The Harlem dandy told new men he understands LaMotta NBA middleweight championship might be taken away from him. "I hope not," Robinson said. Classified Rates MOD Officials Cite California Citrus Gains in East Jos. F. Imhof, general sales manager, and H. Bolen Davis, chief supervisor, packing service department, of Mutual Orange Distributors, Redlands, have just recently returned from a trip through the middlewest, east and Canada, visiting 24 markets in these areas. According to Imhof and Davis, California's first grade and fancy pack oranges are winning back some of the ground lost last year in the middlewest and eastern markets. The fruit is arriving in excellent condition, and this first class fruit is growing in demand. The weather has not been of much assistance, as it has been one of the coolest summers; the east has known for some time, and this certainly has not helped the lemon market. "The fancy label fruit was nothing to be ashamed of in any of the markets," said Mr. Imhof, "and is getting back some of the reputation we lose." Practically the same trip was made last year by Imhof, but at that time hot weather was much in evidence. This year, it was cool; in fact positively chilly in some places. Council Acts to License Solicitors City Councilmen last night took a first step toward absolute control of charity solicitations in the city of Anaheim as they passed first reading of an ordinance which will require any and all solicitors to have a license to canvass Anaheim. Under terms of the ordinance, the Council would issue such a license. The intent of the rule is as all-embracing as possible. Solicitations of donations for charity, promotion of and conducting of bazaars, sales, subscriptions or exhibitions for charity all come under the ordinance's license requirement. Any of these activities would be considered unlawful when carried out without a license, the ordinance states. Penalties for violation of the proposed law range up to a maximum fine of $300 and/or 90 days. Study Evacuation Of Californians If A-Bomb Hits SAN FRANCISCO — A plan to evacuate millions of Californians to Arizona and Nevada in case of an A-bomb attack is being studied by the governors of the three states. The three held a civilian defense parley with Lt. Gen. Albert Wedemeyer, commander of the Sixth Army, yesterday. California's governor, Earl Warren, acknowledged the A-bomb danger but said the most pressing problem is sabotage. "An A-bomb attack is a possibility," he declared, "but sabotage is a very distinct probability and we can prepare against it better than we can an atom attack because we know more about it." Warren has called a special session of the California legislature for September 20 to tighten anti-sabotage laws and plan civilian defense. The governors' meeting was the first of a series to be held with Wedemeyer. The next is scheduled October 3. Governor Vail Pittman of Nevada and Dan E. Garvey of Arizona said they were primarily concerned with taking care of Californians following an A-bombing of key cities. Pittman said Nevada also has several prime bombing targets—notably Hoover and Davis dams. Stanton Items Mr. and Mrs. B. J. Niles of 8292 E. Ball rd., have sold their home to Mr. and Mrs. J. L. COUNTY 2 PEOPLE DON'T LIKE IDEA LOS ANGELES (AP)—The United Nations flag will not fly from Los Angeles county's flagpole. "Rather than make this an international issue, let's drop the whole project," moved County Supervisor Raymond V. Darby yesterday, and all the board put one backed him up in rescinding a recent decision to obtain and display the U.N. emblem. The board acted to ban the flag after two citizens argued that the U.N. council is subject to suspicion because Russia is a member. Supervisor John Ansel Ford argued in vain that burning the UN flag may serve to undermine progress toward international amity. EVEN MUSIC GETS UP! The Long Beach City Council today disclosed a letter protesting the tooling by the city hand-in-all innocence of "The Volga Boatman." Wrote Mrs. Lillie S. Galloway, a music lover of neighboring Santa Monica: Why away in the name of American will your city hand be allowed to play "The Volga Boatman"? Los people go to Russia if they wish to hear slave dirges.
