SELFISH ADOLESCENT
Teen-Age Boy Resents Making Contribution to Household
Dear Miss Dix: I am a boy in my middle teens and find it hard to get along with my father. He is 60 years old with many silly ideas. For example, when I leave the house in the evening, I must state where I am going and must put up with a big fuss. Another thing, he demands that I give up most of my money when I work for household expenses. He earns a meager salary himself. I graduate next year and am in need of money for graduation and clothes. What percentage of my earnings should I give him? After I graduate and am on my own, would you advise me to leave home and go out into the wide world alone?
D. D.
ANSWER: Your father is making a mistake that most fathers make in using force and authority instead of tact in dealing with an adolescent boy.
For at no period during his whole life is a boy so cock-sure of himself, so certain that he is embodied wisdom, so absolutely confident that he is perfectly capable

Fullerton Presbyterian Church Scene Of Evelyn Baumstark-Leo High Nuptials
Saying their vows in front of an altar banked with white flowers and fern, Miss Evelyn Baumstark and Leo G. High were married Saturday evening in the Fullerton Presbyterian church with light from 100 candles casting a soft glow over the church.
Given in marriage by her father, the bride was radiant in an exquisite gown of dotted swiss organdy. It featured an off-the-shoulder bertha, net neckline and long pointed sleeves. The hooped skirt ending in a bridal train, was held by ribbons in the front, showing a ruffle flounce.
The finger tip veil was held in place with a net lace bonnet. Special sentimental accent to the bride's costume was the pearls belonging to her mother and worn by her sister when she was married.
A wedding ring arrangement of a white orchid surrounded by stephonitis and tied with white satin ribbons made up the bridal bouquet.
Mrs. Robert Behrens, sister of the bride, was matron of honor. Her gown was of aqua blue crepe, with a draped bodice and straight skirt. She wore pink net mitts and a pink hat and carried a bouquet of yellow roses.
Miss Doris Anglin of Buena Park wore a pale orchid dotted organdy dress and matching hat and mitts. It was fashioned with a bertha neckline and ruffle flounce coming up the front of the dress to the waist to end in a bustle effect in the back.
Other bridesmaids, Miss Myra Shipley and Mrs. Giovi Antle wore dresses duplicating Miss Anglin's. All three bridesmaids carried pink carnation bouquets shaped like a half moon and tied with green ribbon.

Guy L. Antle served as best man, while Herbert Lee, LaVon Maughan, Ralph Stockwell and William High, brother of the groom, were ushers.
William High escorted the two mothers down the aisle preceding the ceremony and following the rites. Mrs. Baumstark wore a rose-beige dress, with chiffon skirt and lace bodice. A feathered headpiece and orchid corsage was accent to the dress. Mrs. High chose to wear a blue lace dress with black feather headpiece and orchid corsage also.
The Rev. A. S. Bash, pastor of the Christian church in Santa Ana, officiated at the rites. Mary Ann Roth, nuptial soloist, sang "Oh Perfect Love," "Bless This House" and "Response to Prayer." Larry King was organist at the ceremony.
The reception was held at the church in the special room decorated with fern. The serving table had silver and crystal accents. Centerpiece was the large traditional wedding cake.
Assisting in the duties were: Miss Charlotte Varcoe, Mrs. R. Embry and Mrs. J. DeBaun. Mrs. Trenton Mitchell was in charge of the guest book.
Following the reception the couple left for a honeymoon to the local beach reports and to Las Vegas.
The bride is a graduate of Fullerton High school and Fullerton been buying pepper like mad, he told me, and because of the demand, the importers have raised their price. He said that there is an abundant supply of all spices at the present time. No one knows what will happen six months from now, but hoarding is particularly ridiculous with spices. The volatile oils which give the “spice” to spices practically disappear with age—so what is the point? The best cooks buy for immediate needs and immediate needs only!

CALIFORNIANS USE 3 BILLION GALLONS
Californians, in the last fiscal year, paid taxes on 3,342,257,219 gallons of gasoline, butane and propane — enough fuel for three coast-to-coast round trips by each of California's three and a half million passenger cars—William G. Bonelli, Fourth District member of the State Board of Equalization has announced.
These taxes contributed $134,-060,902 for building and maintaining California's city streets and its 80,111 miles of county roads and state highways. Total tax collections on gasoline and other high-test motor fuels sold during the 1949-50 fiscal year amounted to $149,639,274, but $15,578,372 of that amount was refunded by Controller Thomas H. Kuchel to persons who bought such fuels for nonhighway use.
