Anaheim Gazette
by JOHN S. NEUBAUER
FOURTH ESTATE—The ANAHEIM GAZETTE has been the focal point of newspaper publishers from far and wide. In times of mounting production costs, the transition from a weekly to a daily has been considered unique.
ANAHEIM has accepted its new daily Subscription lists and newsstand sales reflect the reading public's preference in newspapers.
The GAZETTE is a home town paper. It is for and about the people of ANAHEIM to whom it carries ANAHEIM business establishments' advertising message.
Some of the newspaper publishers who have visited the GAZETTE plant have taken copious notes and hope to use ANAHEIM know-how in launching successful dailies in their home towns.
GAZETTE features, too, are widely copied. Florida newspapers make a practice of "lifting" Ted Kuchel's popular feature COLONY QUIPS, using it as a regular news feature.
Beside being the publisher of the GAZETTE, Orange county's oldest newspaper, Kuchel is an authority on the citrus industry. His comments are a must for well-informed growers, marketers and processors.
The Catalina Island Chamber of Commerce has reprinted Mrs. Joan S. White's column about P. K. Wrigley's island.
The GAZETTE's growing circulation lists reflect ANAHEIM's acceptance for its progressive, home town newspaper. Local news and local views are its primary concern.
PROFILES—Dr. John W. Truxaw has been ministering to ANAHEIM's needs for more years than he cares to remember. The good doctor was always available —night or day. He never took a day off. His patients were his first consideration always. The doctor had a perfect attendance record at the ROTARY club or 24 years and eight months before illness forced him to miss. ANAHEIM has been especially fortunate in having Dr. John W. Truxaw for a physician, councilor and friend. It is through such untiring devotion to ANAHEIM and it's people by such men that ANAHEIM is truly the best place in the world to live.
SERVICE—Miss Josephine Dirigo, girls physical education teacher at the ANAHEIM union high school, has won the confidence and respect of ANAHEIM's young women. In doing her job well Miss Dirigo attained one of Life's greatest satisfactions — that of serving others and helping them prepare to meet the future. ANAHEIM is truly fortunate to have such a grand person as Miss Dirigo to serve its youth as a teacher, councilor and friend.

Anaheim Youth Will Enter Grand Champion Heifer at County Fair
The past records mean anything, long Robert Van Dyke's cattleies in the Orange county fair "sure bets" to pick up "a full of ribbons and prizes."
Robert, a junior at AUHS and son of Mr. and Mrs. Jake Van Dyke, 5252 Orange ave., Anaheim, is the possessor of the grand champion ribbons in any member of the local sure Farmers of America chapel.
Caldary Lilith Heilo Colantha" one distinguished title claimed his best animal, a registered stein heifer. Now two years old she has won these prizes to her: 1949, 1st prize Chino Fair; 1950, 1st prize at Los Angeles County Spring Fair at Bellflower; 1951, 1st prize Orange County; 1949, 1st prize at Los Angeles County Fair, Pomona; 1949, 1st prize of the Bellflower Pomona Fairs; 1950, 1st prize of the Los Angeles County Spring Fair at Bellflower.
This year Robert purchased an ear calf and will show it for the first time at the Orange County Fair along with Caldary Lilith Heilo Colantha.
Robert's agriculture interest is natural. His father is one of the outstanding dairymen in the Cypress area, and is serving as one of the members of the local high school's agriculture advisory board. Robert has four steers, one of which was grand champion at the Los Angeles County Spring Fair this year. He will offer one of these fine animals for sale at the Junior Livestock auction to take place at the Orange County Fair grounds on August 18, at 10 a.m. Robert will be the secretary of the local FFA chapter next year during his junior year.
Not just a "hobby," Robert's cattle-raising activities have taught him much of the dairy industry. It is not uncommon to see him at work with his brother and father working out some improvement designed to produce better milk more economically.
Designated as "a fine example of what we'd like our FFA boys to be" by school agricultural instructor Avon Carlson, Robert is obviously going to be a top-notch dairyman in his own right—a credit to both the community and to the dairy industry.

Midsummer is the time mothers begin bags to school thoughts about fall war robes for the children, with the accompanying activity of sorting out clothes and shoes stored in closets.
With this in mind, Brigadier Fred Ohrn, manager of the Salvation Army social service center serving the San Antonio area, urging mothers to remember the Salvation Army when discarding clothing, shoes, and other articles longer needed.
