ing addition to anyone's kitchen.
"The American Woman's Cook Book" contains mouth watering illustration which give me more inspiration than anything on the printed page and for that reason it is a favorite of mine. It is indexed with indentations along one side of the book which makes it easy to use.
If you want to keep definitely up to date, "The Better Homes and Gardens Cook Book" is the one for you. It is loose leaf so that you can add more recipes to it. Recipes that are printed from month to month in the Better Homes and Gardens magazine are arranged in such a way that they are easily attached to the cook book.
For typically western foods, there is "The California Cook Book" by Genevive Callahan, a well know food expert, or the brand new "Sunset Cook Book" which is a collection of the best recipes sent in to the magazine by western cooks. It was edited by my friend and past foods editor of Sunset magazine, Emily Chase, so I know something of the painstaking work that went into that one. You are perhaps familiar with the other excellent books for the hostess, the outdoor cook and the gardner that Sunset magazine has also printed.
For the barbecue fan is "Western Barbecue" by Bill Magee who is known throughout the southwest as the best barbecue cook in the region. You will find recipes all the way from cooking cookbooks I have mentioned and many more besides, Audrey Patton, one of the Webber Book Store's very attractive and helpful sales girls, and I got so interested in the marvelous collection of cook books on their shelves that I was late for lunch and I guess she was too. Next chance I have, I'm going back!
"LOVE" CHRISTIAN SCIENCE LESSON SUBJECT
"Love" will be the subject of the Sunday Bible Lesson in all branches of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston. The Golden Text is chosen from I John: "Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God."
Paul counsels in a Lesson-Sermon selection from Romans, "Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law." John points out in his first epistle, "No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us; and his love is perfected in us."
Mary Baker Eddy declares in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." The vital part, the heart and soul of Christian Science, is Love." Again she says, "Love for God and man is the true incentive in both healing and teaching. Love inspires, illuminates, designates, and leads the way."

his faking, passing, ballhandling and guarding are gilt-edged ... being able to demonstate mean anything, it's not hard to see how he produced a championship finish in his first year at the Hornet helm.
With the caliber of players he has, the loop ranks right up there with any summer league around ... Don Derrr, Roy Merk, Don Liebert, and H. L. Looney of the summer recreation department are be congratulated for organizing such a classy circuit ... in addition to the players already mentioned the league's Santa Ana team has on its roster Rolf Engen, East Conference scoring king this year and the S. E. Whieldon quintet includes Jim Schmitz, the other half of Anaheim's famed "Gold Duo Twin" combination.
Getting back to baseball and the big leagues, Charley Keller, Yankee slugger of yesteryear on the comeback trail, has been used on 13 times as a pinchhitter all year by his old Bomber teammate, Detroit Manager Red Rolfe ... the Phillies; the popular choice come through to cop the Nationals flag this year, the railbirds would be able to say they did it the easy way ... They had victory turned into defeat last Monday night when rain wiped out a Blue Jays rally and gave Pittsburgh a flu win ... But the big blow comes tomorrow when Curt Simmons, 14-game winner in a great sophe more year, leaves for two weeks National Guard training ... During this period he figures to have little time for heaving baseball ... This is only a prelude—wait till the clubs loaded with your players like the Phils really start...
For the barbecue fan is "Western" Barbecue" by Bill Magee who is known throughout the southwest as the best barbecue cook in the region. You will find recipes all the way from cooking a whole steer to making chili sauce in true western style.
Should your family be small, you will like "Food for Two" by Ira Bailey Allen. She has written one called "Pressure Cooking" that is well worth the price to the owner of a pressure cooker.
I checked with the Weber Book Store at 139 W. Center st., and find that they have in stock all the

Streak Ends at
30 Staight
NEW YORK (UP)—Stan Musial's lengthy batting streak is at an end. But the star St. Louis Cardinal outfielder is only the 11th big leaguer to hit safely in 30 or more consecutive games.
Musial entered yesterday's game against the Brooklyn Dodgers with a run of 30 straight games in white he'd hit safely. He had five chances in which to keep his skein alive but failed although his mates club bed five Brooklyn hurlers for 14 hits.
Stan's teammates valiantly gave him a last chance in the ninth. Six men went to bat before him. A reached base. But the slugger grounded into a double play.
The modern National League mark of 37 games was established by Tommy Holmes of the Boston Braves in 1945.
