ing monies to pay it. This office believes that the proper protection of the state's monies—your monies, Mr. Citizen—requires us to have a complete right, certainly a complete duty, to audit claims at any time, before disbursement where possible, and after disbursement as well, where we believe such is indicated in the public interest.
The legislature and the governor both agreed with our position, and today, under the specific statutory authority which we sponsored, as well as under Constitutional interpretation, the State Controller in California discharges this duty to the people by making a better, fuller, and more comprehensive audit of claims against the state, than ever before in our history.

The rained-out Braves have a chance to gain and Phillies missed their opportunity bowing to Pittsburgh, 10-8, slugfest that lasted almost hours. Ted Beard, Gus Bell, Danny O'Connell each had hits in the 16-hit attack.

OBSERVATIONS—Ralph Spencer and Burl Gist entered a softball team in the Fullerton City League this year to compete against teams from Buena Park, Whittier, Brea and one from Fulllerton. It fizzled. It was definitely a bad venture for the Anaheim 20-30 . . Incidentally, George Bagsley's Chiksan Company of Brea will win that league in which many Anaheim softballers participated . . Hunt Foods with Anaheim's Don Cram and Placentia's Butch Lockabey came out second best . . Speaking of sports, Glen Walters, the friendly mortician who handles the destinies of the Fullerton Junior Legion will send his team against San Diego tomorrow. He figures to win . . Vic Reudy, incidentally, is getting ready to stage the annual Junior Legion District Tournament at La Palma Park. It's a big job and a success because there are men like Vic behind it . .

Nazarene Church Hosts Palestine Expert Sunday
Dr. Harold W. Gretzinger who recently visited the newly established nation of Israel will speak on Palestine and conditions as he found them there at the local Church of the Nazarene, Sunday evening at 7:30 p.m.
Dr. Gretzinger visited Israel as the guest of the government, having been appointed to the American Christian Palestine commission. He was in Jerusalem during Holy Week this year and participated in the Easter sunrise services there.
After viewing the situations there Dr. Gretzinger is convinced that the nation of Israel today is a literal fulfillment of the prophecy of Ezekiel made 2500 years ago, that the Jews would become a nation once more.
He says that the Jews there accept it as such Dr. Gretzinger was told of miraculous events in the recent war with the Arabs states which he says were comparable to the Biblical accounts of miracles in wars of Old Testament times.
One of the pressing problems of this new nation is that of thousands of refugees who desire to settle there. Tied in with this refugee problem is the plight in which Christian churches find themselves. Dr. Gretzinger states that there were barely 100 people at the Easter sunrise service in Jerusalem this year. His explana-

states which he says were comparable to the Biblical accounts of miracles in wars of Old Testament times.
One of the pressing problems of this new nation is that of thousands of refugees who desire to settle there. Tied in with this refugee problem is the plight in which Christian churches find themselves. Dr. Gretzinger states that there were barely 100 people at the Easter sunrise service in Jerusalem this year. His explanation for this condition is that most of the Christians were Arabs. On the outbreak of hostilities they were advised by the British to umph, he not only must contend with the bats of the Hollywood Stars. He also must face the whammy, curse of all baseball.
Wilson must shoulder a burden his teammate, Charley Schanz, could not carry last night. Schanz, just back from the American League, chucked a four hitter, yet the Hollywood ace, Jack Salveson, beat him 1 to 0.
Every mind at Gilmore field tonight will have a single thought: Can Big Jim tie the record set by Frank Browning of San Francisco in 1909?
Wilson has been winning steadily since May 3. Seven of his wins have been shutouts.
If last night's contest foreshadowed anything, then Wilson is ship-wrecked before he get aboard. Salveson and Schanz dueled scorelessly until the ninth, when Murray Franklin's bases-loaded single gave Hollywood the game. Salveson, whose record now stands at 13-1, yielded seven hits. It was his 10th straight win.
Elsewhere along the circuit, the proceedings were nearly as spectacular. Oakland maintained its three game lead by lacing Portland in a 9 to 6 hit orgy. High Herran Besse cranked Los Angeles to a 2 to 0 shutout over Sacramento.
The Angel victory came on Rookie catcher Ray Cash's homer with one on.
At San Diego, Jackie Tobin's pinch hit homer with the bases full in the 10th inning gave San Francisco an 8 to 4 conquest of the Padres.
