Banson. Hospitals to Get New Wonder Drug Cortisone will be available early next month to a large number of hospitals throughout the country under the trade mark "Cortone," Merck & Co., manufacturing chemists, who first produced the drug by chemical synthesis, announced today. Steadily increasing production of Cortone and the accumulating knowledge concerning its use in Rheumatoid arthritis and other diseases have made this limited distribution possible. The wonder drug will be delivered to the hospitals in packages of three vials, each vial containing 300 milligrams of the substance. The price to hospitals will be $28.50 per vial, equivalent to $95 a gram. This is the fourth in a series of price reductions. The original price was $200 a gram, the amount first paid by clinical investigators.
