For Results, Quick Ladies Welcome At Next Meeting Of Toastmasters The ladies are being invited to next Monday's weekly meeting of the Toastmasters at the Mother Colony House. Reservations can be made with Toastmaster Aubrey Van Verst, at Anaheim 4080. Earl Smith will act as next week's toastmaster and master of ceremonies. At last Monday's meeting the Optimist trophy was awarded to Page Vincent whose speech, "Tie Your Wagon to a Star," was chosen as the best of the evening. The meeting opened with Table Topics, under the direction of Joseph P. Ersek. Mr. Ersek selected "Friendship" as his theme. Other speakers included Louis Taylor, who spoke on "Polio;" and Marion Pickel, whose topic was "The Northwester." Grammarian was Earl Smith. R. H. Allen was evaluator. Merle F. Corkhill was a guest of Joe Ersek for the evening. Dorothy Dix (Continued from Page 3) and children are like automobiles—expensive luxuries that cost you a lot of money and worry and aggravation of spirit, but that give you enough thrills and fun to pay for their upkeep. And, anyway, you couldn't live without them. And, anyway, you couldn't live without 'em. Likewise, before marriage men and women should wear magnifying glasses when they look at each other, but after marriage they should wear blinders. Before marriage a man should carefully scrutinize the character and disposition of the young woman with whom he is contemplating spending the rest of his life. He should test out her amiability. He should investigate the amount of brains in her pretty little head. He should find out if she has a sense of humor. He should ascertain whether she knows how to cook, and whether she shies at the sight of a kitchen or adores pots and pans. He should make sure of what line of conversation she carries, and whether she could keep him entertained for two hours at a stretch. Same way with a girl. Before she gets married she should find out what sort of disposition the man has with whom she is contemplating tying up, and whether he will be a little ray of sunshine in the house or a wet blanket over it. She should get his ideas on whether he considers a wife as a partner who goes fifty-fifty with her husband, or as an unpaid domestic servant. She should know what his ideas are on the allowance question, and whether he proposes to be a fireside companion or run with his old crowd, and whether he thinks he can pick out winners on the racetrack and support the local tavern without getting the worst of it. Before marriage a man and woman should have a good working diagram of each other's every fault and weakness, but on their wedding eve they should chuck it in the fire and forget all about it, and threafter look not for blemishes in each other, but for perfections. Should Test for Love Finally, before marriage a man and woman should apply every known test to ascertain if they are really in love, but after marriages... Before marriage a woman should have a good working diagram of each other's every fault and weakness, but on their wedding eve they should chuck it in the fire and forget all about it, and threafter look not for blemishes in each other, but for perfections. Should Test for Love Finally, before marriage a man and woman should apply every known test to ascertain if they are really in love, but after marriage they should cease vivisection their own emotions. Before marriage every man should ask himself: "Will I still love this woman when she is no longer young and pretty? Will her voice still have power to thrill me when I hear it every morning across the breakfast table, asking me to leave money for the milkman and not to forget the butcher's bill?" Every girl should ask herself: "Will I still love this man when he is fat and bald-headed? Will my heart still do flipflops when I hear his footsteps coming home at night ten years from now, and will I still hang upon his words when he wants to know why I never learn to make biscuits like his mother used to make?" But after marriage love should be taken for granted, and it is as fatal for a husband and wife to begin to count their heart throbs and analyze their feelings toward each other as it is for an individual to begin to explore his system for symptoms of disease. There is a time for everything. And the time for doubts and misgivings and counting the cost of matrimony should come before marriage, not afterward. IF YOU SEE A RED HEAD GET IN TOUCH WITH THIS LONG BEACH TAXI JOCKEY The Indian rope trick is no more baffling to Long Beach taxi driver Roy K. Scalfe than what became of his $8.40 fare. He reported to police that he drove a woman about 35 years old from Long Beach to Santa Ana about 1 a.m. yesterday. He said she went into a private residence to get the fare didn't come out, and upon investigating he found nobody in the house knew of her arrival. The driver said the woman's red hair "undoubtedly was dyed," and that she had gold caps on her teeth. After saying that he gave up all hope of getting his money.
