Prices Ease in Stock Market
NEW YORK, May 22 (AP)—Traders slammed the brakes on in the stock market today as prices eased lower.
It was one of the slowest days of the year. Trading approximated 1,600,000 shares for the entire day.
Losses were almost all fractional.
There was nothing to account for the condition except suggestions that the Stock Market was simply resting after last week's spurt that put it at a new average high for the year equal to the level of nearly four years ago.
The American Iron and Steel institute reported another record breaking week in prospect. An estimated output of 1,940,600 tons of ingots and castings. This would be an all-time high. For the sixth straight week the industry has been operating at more than 100 percent of rated capacity — this week at 101.8 per cent.
A little lower were Santa Fe, Union Pacific, Standard Oil (NJ), Barnsdall Oil, United Air Lines, General Electric, Eastman Kodak, Air Reduction, American Smelting, Radio Corp., Schenley, United Aircraft, International Harvesters, Sears Roebuck, Chrysler, General Motors, Bethlehem Steel, and U.S. Steel.

McLain Books to State Senate Group
LOS ANGELES, (AP)—Pension Promoter George McLain must produce his books and records before the State Senate's interim committee on social welfare at its next meeting here.
Superior Judge W. Turney Fox handed down the ruling today. The committee's counsel, Jack J. Miller, said a date for the meeting will be announced shortly.
The Senate group wants McLain to produce his ledger showing funds received by his Citizens Committee for Old Age Pensions; along with records showing what happened to a petty cash fund.
McLain's lawyer opposed today's court order. He argued that the same issue already is pending before the District Court of Appeal. Judge Fox held, however, that McLain was wrong in his previous refusal to produce the records before the committee.
Presidents FTC Reorganization Has Rough Time
WASHINGTON (AP)—An effort to kill President Truman's reorganization plan for the Federal Trade commission failed in the Senate today.
Thirty-four Senators voted for a resolution to reject the plan and 37 Senators against the resolution.
The resolution required the votes of 49 Senators, a majority of the entire membership.
The plan would transfer the administrative functions of the commission to the chairman and allow the president to appoint him. The commission members now select the chairman.
Senator Edwin C. Johnson (D-Colo), author of the resolution of disapproval, contended Mr. Trueman's plan "would turn over to the president legislative powers that do not belong to him."
Similar reorganization plans for the Interstate Commerce commission and the Federal Communication commission were among five plans of the president that the Senate previously has rejected.
Democratic Leader Lucas of Illinois said unless Congress was willing to "grant some powers to the president and trust him to appoint chairmen" of such agencies,

Similar reorganization plans for the Interstate Commerce commission and the Federal Communication commission were among five plans of the president that the Senate previously has rejected.
Democratic Leader Lucas of Illinois said unless Congress was willing to "grant some powers to the president and trust him to appoint chairmen" of such agencies, "there never will be any effective reorganization of the government."
