It is reassuring to know that the California school system ranks with New York and Pennsylvania to become one of the nation's "big three." The world our children know is so much more complex and fast-moving than the one in which we grew up that the educational system has had to progress to prepare them for it. Reading, writing and arithmetic are still very important but do nothing to help youngsters adjust to this bewildering world where jet planes, cowboy thrillers and television are every day affairs.
Mr. Morocco, Principal of Katella School, put on an excellent program one morning last week to acquaint "new mothers" and their children with the school and what it is trying to do for the child. We came away with the feeling that the school is doing its work well.
With a bumper crop of war babies on their hands, it looks as if the schools would not lack customers. If you have a child who will be four years and six months of age on or before September, now is the time to register him for kindergarten.
