Toastmasters Install New Officers Monday
Installation of officers for the Toastmasters was held last Monday evening when the group met at Mother Colony House Restaurant for their regular meeting. Don Haydon of Santa Ana No. 15, deputy governor of this district, was the installing officer.
Officers installed were: president, Kenneth Heuler, re-elected; vice-president, Louis Taylor; secretary, Ed Wright, re-elected; sergeant-at-arms, Aubrey Van Verst, and deputy governor, John Knutzen, re-elected.
President Kenneth Heuler presided during the meeting which was opened with the invocation by C. O. Garshwiler. Distinguished guests introduced were Mr. Haydon, Walter Gooden, president of the Optimist club; L. M. Lichtenwalter, C. O. Patterson, Barney Brodie and J. W. Stephen, all members of Optimist, who were present to support the high school speaker appearing on the program of the evening, Ronald Legg. Present also were past members of Toastmasters, John Gilmore, Marshall Beebe, Sydney Pellew, Herman Hoch, Max Henderson, John Dwyer, R. J. Allen and Harwood Larson. The introduction of guests was in the form of a round table, each guest introducing himself.
Ed Wright, who presented the table topic, used for his subject, "The 49th State—Hawaii."
During the business session, certificates of merit were awarded for completion of the twelve basic lessons in speaking to John Knutzen, Kenneth Heuler, L. M. Pickel, C. I. Stillson and Louis M. popularly acclaimed the speaker of the evening.
Evaluator of the evening Earl Smith, grammarian, H Allen and timekeeper was W Dixon Jr.

Solons Demand Removal of Excise Taxes
SACRAMENTO (WNS) — Removal of federal luxury and amusement excise taxes was demanded in resolution adopted by the legislature and forwarded to congress.
Assemblyman Everett Gurkhalter of North Hollywood and Edward Gaffney of San Francisco authored the resolutions which call for the exemption of theatrical entertainment from the excise tax and modification of the tax on so-called luxury items.

First speaker on the program was Victor Huber, who spoke for 14 minutes on "Our Hidden Enemy," followed by Harwood Larison, who chose for his ten minute talk, "Shakespeare Said a Mouthful." Marion Pickel, the third speaker, talked on the subject "Where Are We Going?" and final speaker on the Toastmaster team was John Gilmore who discussed "Planning in Orange County," a talk of ten minutes duration.
And last, but not least, was the Optimist representative from the high school, Ronald Legg, who used for his topic of discussion, "Today's Neew of Optimism." His talk was most excellent and he was

John W. Wallace
Dies from Injuries
John William Wallace, 79 years
of age, passed away Sunday night
at Anaheim Community hospital
from injuries received when he
was struck by an automobile as he
was crossing Manchester boulevard at Walnut street. The accident occurred shortly after 7 o'clock and he passed away several hours later.
Born in West Virginia 79 years ago, he came to Anaheim 15 years ago and had resided in Anaheim continuously since that time.
The deceased was a member of Calvary Baptist church.

Surviving are two ons, Dr. H. Wallace of Fullerton and Dr. M. Wallace of San Bernardino; the sister, Mrs. Carrie Adams of West Virginia; four brothers, Fred of Wyoming, Robert L. of Wyoming, Ira J. of West Virginia and Mer E. Wallace of Iowa, and three grandchildren.
Funeral services are being conducted today (Thursday) at 2 p.m. from Hilgenfeld chapel. The Rev. Robert Kevorkian, pastor of Calvary Baptist church, will officiate and interment will be in the family plot in Anaheim cemetery.
Mr. and Mrs. Ignacio Meldonado of Rt. 3, 7122 Vista St., Anaheim, are the parents of a daughter, born on Monday, April 3, at Fullerton General hospital.
FISHING AT THE BEACH
Ken Chesley and Warren O'Kane trolled recently in Balboa Bay, opposite the pavillion, and caught bass up to three and a half pounds. They reported that bass are also being caught at the entrance to the jetty.
Marvin Webb has caught the largest spotfin to date—seven and a half pounds.
