Mrs. K. Irvine, Prominent County Resident, Passes Mrs. Katharine Irvine, widow of the late James Irvine, passed away Sunday at her home in Moraga from a heart attack. Her late husband was owner of the largest Orange county ranch who left a huge fortune to his heirs. Mr. Irvine, who passed away in 1947 at the age of 79, was believed to be one of the world's wealthiest men. The late Mrs. Irvine maintained homes in Moraga, San Francisco and Corona del Mar. The former Katharine Lampson Brown of Piedmont, she was married to Mr. Irvine in 1931 in Oakland. She was the founder of the Orange County Assistance League and was active in charitable organizations. Mr. Irvine had owned the large Irvine ranch in this county and other properties in northern California and Montana. He also had extensive oil interests. Surviviving are one son, William Thornton White, Jr., of San Francisco, and two grandchildren, Billy and Gay White of Newport Heights. There is also a granddaughter of Mrs. Irvine, Mrs. Charles Stetson Wheeler, III, of Orinda and Santa Ana and her two children, Nita and James Irvine Wheeler. Respecting Mrs. Irvine's wishes, no funeral services were held, the remains being cremated. She requested friends not to send flowers but to take the amount of money and make donation to one of her charities in her name.
