At Penney's In Anaheim Social and Club Activities Joan Guss, Charles Schultz Plan Wedding Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Guss of San Clemente have announced the engagement of their daughter, Joan, of Anaheim, to Charles M. Schultz, son of Mrs. M. H. Young of Buena Park. Miss Guss passed chocolates to a group of her intimate friends recently after which bridge was played and a buffet luncheon served. The bride-elect is a graduate of Anaheim Union high school, Fullerton Junior college and attended the University of California at Berkeley. Mr. Schultz, a graduate of Fullerton Junior college, is attending California State Poly at San Luis Obispo where he is majoring in electrical engineering. The wedding will take place sometime this summer, after Mr. Schultz' graduation. April Program For Ebell Home And Gardeners Mrs. Floyd Peterson of the Ebell Home and Garden section announced that on April 10, Mrs. Bertha Doyle of Lynwood, instructor in floriculture at the Major Bateson school will give a demonstration in practical flower arrangements from garden flowers. Mrs. Doyle 'will also make corsages from Kleenex, a trick Campus club on April 21 from 2 until 5. The reception will be given in the home on the grounds of the Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden and tea will be served in the library. Lions Entertain At Speak-Off The Lions club entertained, and were entertained, on Friday evening at the Elks club. It was the "speaker's runoff" in the 13th Junior Oratorical contest and the Lions invited their wives to a delicious dinner and afterward listened to the competitors, of which there were five, from Anaheim Union high school and Marywood high school. Jackie Whitman walked off with the highest honors which makes her eligible for the next contest which will take place on March 23. All northern Orange county towns will be represented at that speak-off and the winners will meet competitors from Nevada, as this is an inter-state contest. The big prize is $1,000 in cash for college expenses. Marie Truman Bride of Ralph Harper Mr. and Mrs. Leslie D. Truman of Santa Ana announce the recent marriage of their daughter, Marie Evelyn, to Ralph D. Harper of Anaheim, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. B. Harper, also of Santa Ana. Mrs. Ames was assisted by Mrs. Joe Walters and Mrs. Ted Kuchel. Over thirty members enjoyed the luncheon and then settled down to the business of hearing the new by-laws read. Helen Hokanson Engaged to Nathan Haney Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hokanson, 844 North Clementine street, Anaheim, announce the engagement of their daughter, Helen, to Nathan Haney, son of Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Haney of Placentia. LOIS REYNOLDS ON RADIO Mrs. Lois Reynolds, 147 West Center street, wrote a poem several weeks ago concerning the Ladies First program broadcast over the Mutual-Don Lee system. As a result she was interviewed over the air on a recent show by Master of Ceremonies, Bob Moon. INTERFRATERNITY LEADER Chuck Schuth, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold B. Schuth of Anaheim, has been elected president of the Interfraternity council at Redlands University. Mr. Schuth is a senior and a member of Al Public School Week Scheduled For April Month Representative California organizations have been among the first to offer their support to aid in the observance of the 31st Annual Public Schools Week, April 24th through 29th. Chairman George D. Gavin of San Francisco of the state committee has announced. Mrs. Patricia Luhr, president of the California Congress of Parents and Teachers, Inc., said: "The 31st Annual Public Schools Week provides a personal opportunity for parents and citizens to observe the democratic practices that are a part of classroom work in the schools of California." Mrs. Luhr urged all parents to visit the schools in their community during public schools week to observe first-hand the work of "The Public School—Democracy in Action." The Public Schools Week observance also has been endorsed by the California Department of the American Legion, the California State Federation of Labor, the California Medical Association and other groups. Schuth of Anaheim, has been elected president of the Interfraternity council at Redlands University. Mr. Schuth is a senior and a member of Alpha Gamma Nu and has been active in campus organizations ever since attending Redlands.
