Print Indices To Affidavits by Offset Method
SACRAMENTO, (WNS)—The Attorney General’s office ruled last week that the offset method of printing indices to affidavits of registration may be used.
The ruling, which makes certain stipulations as to the use of such a printing method, was given to assemblyman Francis Dunn, of Oakland, who asked for the opinion.
The attorney general held that "only those methods which can produce the required eight point Roman type on eight point body (stipulated in the code) constitute printing within the meaning of said section."
"In an attempt to reach an interpretation," the opinion said, "consonant with the intent of the legislature, the general theme of cases and opinions construing the word printing has been that a result rather than any certain mechanical process was intended."
But, the opinion held further, "methods other than conventional printing will comply with the statute only if they can exactly produce the required size and style."

Co-Op Quiz Won By Local F.F.A.
The sectional co-op quiz contest, sponsored by the Cooperative Farm Organization of California, was won by the Anaheim Union High School F. F. A. representatives in competition with seven other schools. The contest was held at Placentia, Tuesday evening, March 14.
This tourney has been won by the high school organization several times previously, but last year the group placed second.
Third and fourth year agricul-tural students, entered in the contest, had previously participated in an 'Information, Please' program arranged by the cooperatives and held in Anaheim Feb. 9. The students elicited information from a board of experts representing several co-operative associations.
With a score of 84.84, the Anaheim team won over the Garden Grove group which placed second. Fullerton placed third.
Individual first place award was captured by Fullerton with 38½ points out of a possible 40. Sieward took second with 37½, while Padgett placed third with 34½.
Competing in the meet were teams from Garden Grove, Fullerton, Valencia, Newport, Tustin, and Orange in addition to the Anaheim representatives.

Needy Aged Roll Up 40 Per Cent For January ’50
Orange county had 40 per cent more people on its aid to the aged rolls during January, 1950, than it had in January, 1949, California Taxpayers’ association reported last week.
Total aged aid case load in the county for January, 1950, reached 5,645, compared with 4,045 for January, 1949.
Throughout the state, aged aid case load for January, 1950, was 37 per cent greater than for Januar- yr, 1949. January, 1950, cases reached 275,085, compared with 201,290 for January, 1949.
The obnoxious provisions of Prop. No. 4, which the people re-pudiated by 400,000 majority in November, 1949, are to blame for the skyrocketing aged aid case load in California during 1949,” the Taxpayers’ association declared.

'Machine Works' Wins Court Case
SACRAMENTO, (WNS) — An appeal to the State Supreme Court by the Commercial Credit company in a case involving the range County Machine Works as denied in a recent decision of the court last week.
The Commercial Credit Company sued the Machine Works on a commissory note representing the amount unpaid on a conditional sales contract.
The lower court held that the credit corporation had no case, in view of the circumstances, which involved the purchase of a machine press.
"Machine Works," the decision said, "never obtained the press for which it bargained, and, as against Commercial, there is no more obligation upon it to pay the note than there is to pay the installments specified in the contract."
