Anaheim Gazette, Thursday, January 19, 1950 Lions to Attend District Meet Joe Critchfield, president of the Anaheim Lions club, will head a delegation of Anaheim members to the District 4 convention of Lions International to be held Friday and Saturday at Santa Barbara. Planning to attend the conclave with Critchfield are Marshall Beebe, Vic. LaMont, Sr., and Dr. John Boege. The regular luncheon-meeting for local Lions will be held tomorrow. (Friday) noon at the Elks club with Judge John Shea in charge of the program. Walter M. Carver Claimed by Death Walter M. Carver, 76 years of age, passed away on Sunday, January 15, at Ellendale Rest Home on Stanton Road. Born in Reidsburg, Wisconsin, he had resided in Anaheim since 1926, the family home being at 517 South Illinois street. Left to mourn his passing are his wife, Lillian, at the home; two sons, Myrl M. Carver of Los Angeles, and Dr. Gordon L. Carver of Riverside; two daughters, Mrs. E. G. Whereatt and Miss Winfred G. Carver, both of Bloominton, Indiana; six grandchildren; one brother, Marvin Carver of Anaheim, and three sisters, Mrs. L. C. Blake, Mrs. Kate M. Quarton and Mrs. Alice Booth, all of Anaheim. Funeral services were held Wednesday morning at 10:30 o'clock from the chapel of Backs, Campbell and Kaulbars mortuary with the Rev. L. R. Anderson, of the Seventh Day Adventist church in Fullerton, officiating. Interment was in Anaheim cemetery. Wm. G. Bradford Passes Suddenly William G. Bradford passed away very suddenly at Murphy Memorial hospital in Whittier where he was taken after suffering a sudden illness. Born Aug. 27, 1897, in Baxter, Tenn., he had resided in Whittier at 828 North Magnolia for the past 19 years. The deceased was a member of St. Mary's Catholic church in Whittier. Surviving are his wife, Johanna E. Bradford of the home; one son, William C. Bradford of Whittier; a daughter, Mrs. Catherine Schlund of Whittier; two grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Ethel Taylor of Huntington Beach and his mother, Mrs. James Rusch of Huntington Beach. Recitation of Holy Rosary was held Thursday evening at 8 o'clock at the chapel of Backs, Campbell and Kaulbars mortuary and Mass was on Friday morning at 9:30 o'clock. Interment was in Holy Sepulchre cemetery. A baby daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Kermitt Garrett, 9806 South Los Angeles street, Anaheim, Monday, at Fullerton General hospital. Birthday Meet For Optimists E. E. Bauermeister, director of education at the California Institute for Men at Chino, will address the Optimist club at 7:30 o'clock tonight (Thursday) at the second annual birthday meeting to be held at Mother's Kitchen. Program chairman for this week, Dr. B. D. Roberts, will introduce the guest speaker. Bauermeister will discuss the effect of prison life upon the individual. Walter Gooden, club president, will preside over the meeting which will commemorate the chartering of the local organization here on January 18, ten years ago. Superior court Judge Robert Gardner of Santa Ana spoke last week to the Optimists. Introduced by L. M. Lichenwalfer, he discussed the different facets of court procedure and the publicity which follows some trials and other legal controversies. Board to Meet The local Optimists' board of governors will meet next Tuesday night at 6:30 o'clock at La Palma Grill under the chairmanship of president Gooden. Grant R. Rude, popular Anaheim police sergeant, underwent surgery at Fullerton General hospital Wednesday morning. According to his wife, he is expected to return to the family home, 835 South Claudina street, in approximately a week. He is reported "doing fine" following the successful operation.
