Annual Dinner Meeting At St. Michael's
(Continued from page 1)
James Dibble, Gerald Goodrich and George Eaton.
At the organization meeting of the vestry, held immediately after the general annual dinner session, the rector appointed Goodrich, senior warden and the vestry elected Jackson, junior warden; Marjorie Pibel, treasurer, and Patrick, clerk. Warwick and Easton were appointed by Jackson to serve as his assistants. Delegates elected to the convocation at Long Beach included Oscar Brower, T. K. M. Smith, R. A. Patrick, Mrs. Oscar Brower and Mrs. George Koch.
Following a delicious pot-luck dinner, planned by St. Agnes Guild under chairmanship of Mrs. Koch, a contest was staged to determine which church organization and Sunday school class had the best apportionate attendance. Top honors went to Los Miguelitos, young people's organization, and to the sixth grade for Sunday school attendance. Members of St. Agnes Guild acted as hostesses for the dinner.
The business meeting was called to order by Rev. Saville. Ted Kuchel, retiring senior warden, gave his report. In it he pointed out the growth in the parish during the last year, both in the church school and in regular congregations. Special mention was made in memory of two devoted church staff workers who died during the year, Mr. D. William Davis and Mr. Thomas Jackson.
The treasurer's report was read by Ernest Zitzmann in the absence of Marjorie Pibel, treasurer. Zitzmann also gave his report on the expansion fund, sketching the history of this recent project which culminated in the purchase of a new rectory. This purchase released the old rectory for office and much-needed classroom space.
Goodrich, junior warden, presented the 1950 budget. He challenged that it limelights the parish for new progress not only with the parish but also in missionary work both in the United States and abroad.
Stimulating reports from organizations were given including that of Miss Donna Sangster for the senior church school class; Mrs. Eva Boyd, the auxiliary; Mrs. Robert Edens for the Altar Guild;
Mrs. Joe Thompson, St. Agnes Guild; Mrs. Ernest Rose, Susan La-faucherie Guild, Tom Harrison, Jr., Los Miguelitos; Joe Thompson, Men's club, and Frank Garrett, retiring clerk the Vestry report.
In his report, Rev. Saville thanked all the organizations for their spirit of cooperation and enthusiasm which they have exhibited both in support of their own projects and in cooperative programs sponsored by the entire parish.
The rector, also personally thanked all the retiring members of the vestry for their hard work during the past year.

Speakers Review
1949 Predictions
To the amusement and amazement of local Toastmasters, their "Predictions Made for the Year 1949" were reviewed by Louis Taylor, table topic master at the regular dinner session Monday evening in La Palma Grill.
Following the review, 1950 forecasts were recorded to be read next year. Open discussion was held.
President Ken Heuler presided over the meeting. The invocation was given by past president Al Holve, a guest. Other guests included Ralph Maas, Jr., introduced by Dr. Fred Rusch, and Cliff Truxel and A. V. Segelhorst, both exchange speakers from the Huntington Beach club.
Page Vincent, toastmaster of the evening, introduced the speaker.
For he is not a God of the dead, but of the living: for all live unto him."
A Bible story from Mark reports that a ruler of the synagogue came to Jesus saying, "My little daughter lieth at the point of death: I pray thee, come and lay thy hands on her, that she may be healed; and she shall live. . . And when he was come in, he saith unto them, Why make ye this ado, and weep? the damsel is not dead, but sleepeth. And they laughed him to scorn. . . And he took the damsel by the hand, and said unto her, . . Damsel, I say unto thee, arise. And straightway the damsel arose, and walked."
"Called to the bed of death, what material remedy has man when all such remedies have failed?" writes Mary Baker Eddy in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." She says "Spirit is his last resort, but it should have been his first and only resort. The dream of death must be mastered by Mind here and here-after."
