South-Paw Club Contributes to Fiscus Fund
Immediately following the Kathy Fiscus tragedy, money began coming in from all over the nation for distribution to the many heroic workers who attempted to save the young girl who fell into an abandoned water well in April.
Although not representing the largest—the gift of the Southpaw Club of Anaheim was probably the most unusual. The organization composed of men who vowed to imbibe with their left-hand or pay a dime fine, forwarded the entire balance of their treasury totaling $106 to the fund.
In acknowledgement of their contribution, Fred Bouslong Bouslog, treasurer received the following letter:
"Dear Mr. Bouslog:
On behalf of the Kathy Fiscus Rescue Fund, we acknowledge receipt of your check for $106.
Although we have received letters and notes by the thousands in connection with this fund, many of us feel that yours was just about the most interesting one of them all. Many of the workmen and engineers on the rescue job have read your letter and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Please tell all the members of your South-Paw Club how much those connected with the Kathy Fiscus Rescue Fund appreciate their ten hundred and sixty errors."
Cordially yours,
H. P. Cunningham."

Why not go to church Sunday?
In April, Fullerton endurance fliers, Bill Barris and Dick Riedel, brought their "Sunkist Lady" to ground after establishing a world's record for remaining aloft.
It was their first attempt and the two aviators gained national recognition in a unique endurance flight in which they flew from Fullerton to Florida.
Weather conditions forced them to remain in Florida skies for a week offering our fellow growers a rather constant reminder of Sunkist oranges.
The whole city of Fullerton turned out to greet the weary fliers as thousands were on hand to welcome the boys back home.
Bright spot of the whole flight was its result in Riedel's son being invited to Hot Springs, Arkansas where the Optimist club there financed his hospital care enabling him to walk again. The boy had been afflicted with arthritis which had locked his hips.

Legion Acquires Clubhouse in '49
Anaheim's American Legion Post realized a thirty-year dream in the year 1949 when they at long last constructed a post building at La Palma and North streets.
First plans of the $20,000 structure were released in January and within five months ground was broken. For the greater part of their 30-year history in this city the legionmaires had been meeting in the basement of the city hall.
Formal dedication of the clubhouse took place on Sunday, October 16 when Dick Gay, building committee chairman turned over the "door keys" to post commander Dr. Paul S. Arnold.
The ground-breaking was on May 18th when Dave Proud, turned over the first spade of ground. William Webb, attorney, first commander and charter member of the post was accorded the honor of turning over the second spade.
