Arthritis Fund Enters Final Weeks Here Looking forward to a "merrier Christmas in 1950," seven-and-one-half million Americans have turned anxious eyes on the progress of the Arthritis and Rheumatism Foundation fund-raising campaign moving into its closing weeks. "These people—crippled and in pain from these two diseases—have in the Foundation a tireless partner working around-the-clock to win their battle against these agonizing diseases," Willard W. Keith, southern California chairman for the fund campaign, declared. "For it will be through medical research and study that the cause, cure and relief for this multitude of sufferers will come." Throughout the United States, the Foundation seeks a goal of $2,000,000, of which southern California has been assigned a quota of $150,000 as its share. There are thousands of residents in Los Angeles and throughout the southland who face the approaching Yuletide season with hope in their hearts that the Arthritis and Rheumatism Foundation's drive will be an 'over the top' effort," chairman Keith stated. "It is certainly the desire of the local committee to report a victory to General Lucius D. Clay, the national leader of the fund appeal." Contributions to the drive should be mailed to the Arthritis and Rheumatism Foundation, 714 W. Olympic Boulevard, Los Angeles, 10, or care of your local master. Highway Patrol Plans Attack on Xmas Accidents Old Man Traffic Accident is facing a two-front attack by the Highway Patrol this Christmas, it was revealed today by Clifford E. Peterson, commissioner. Orders sent to the patrol field units last week called for intensive activity throughout the state. Today, Peterson revealed, an additional order went into effect directing commanding officers to send patrol members to make four-minute speeches to every club meeting and public gathering to be held in the state during the week before Christmas. "We believe such an educational campaign, coupled with strict enforcement of safe driving laws, will help California have a much safer Christmas this year," Peterson said.
