Study $2 Million Building Request Of U. of California Sacramento, (WNS) — Requests of the University of California for construction funds totalling $2 million will be considered by the state public works board here this week. Included in the requests are $475,000 for a virus laboratory building at Berkeley, $940,000 for the Hastings College of Law at San Francisco and $500,000 for a poultry husbandry building at Davis. H. C. Vincent, Jr., secretary of the board, said the university had previously been granted $500,000 for the purchase of a site for the proposed Hasting College building. He said also to be considered on the agenda will be a request for 50,000 made by the 6th District Agricultural Association for improvements to the coliseum at Los Angeles. SPICY CRANBERRY SAUCE 2 cups water 2 cups sugar 1 1-inch stick cinnamon ½ teaspoon whole cloves 4 cups fresh cranberries Juice and grated rind of ½ lemon Combine water, sugar and spices and bring to boil. Add cranberries, cook until all skins pop open. Stir in lemon juice and rind. Cool before serving. Makes 1 quart. STEAMED CHRISTMAS PUDDING 2 cups sifted enriched flour ¼ cup sugar 1 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon soda ½ teaspoon cloves 1 teaspoon allspice 1 teaspoon cinnamon 2 eggs, unbeaten ¾ cup molasses ¼ cup shortening, melted 2 cups seedless raisins 2 cups chopped pitted dates 1 cup chopped citron ¼ cup milk Sift together first seven ingredients. Combine eggs and molasses; gradually stir into flour mixture. Add shortening, then fruit, and milk. Fill well-greased mold ⅓ full; cover and steam 3 hours. Serve with lemon or hard sauce. Steam individual molds 1 hour. 12 to 14 portions. CHRISTMAS BARS 6 ounce package of chocolate bits 20 graham crackers, rolled 14 ounce can condensed milk ½ cup shredded cocoanut ½ cup chopped filberts ¼ teaspoon salt Melt chocolate bits in top of double boiler over boiling water. Add other ingredients, blend. Spread mixture evenly in lightly greased 8 inch square pan. Bake in moderately hot oven—375 F.—about 30 minutes. Cut in fingers while still warm.
