First Units Of Prado Pipe Line Completed Orange county has completed the first units of its pipe line into Prado basin, to conserve from 8,000 to 12,000 acre feet of water now going to waste annually thru transpiration. The board of supervisors this week accepted the completed job of the Charles T. Brown Co., San Fernando, which laid a line of 48-inch pipe 730 feet upstream from the Prado dam. This extension of the pipe paid under the dam when it was built, makes about 1000 feet of upstream pipe now in place. About a year ago, 2500 feet of 60-inch pipe was added to the downstream side of the dam, to take the new water closer to the spreading grounds. The 48-inch pipe is of superior quality than the 60-inch pipe, and will carry as much water, according to Flood Control Engineer Jack Bradley. Cost of the contract just completed was above $102,000, total cost, including floor district expense, being about $117,000, Bradley said. The new pipe remains plugged at its upper end and will receive no water from the basin until subsequent units are added, taking the line into Prado basin sufficiently to construct laterals on either side. Then the line will start taking water downstream under the dam. That is, if the upper river communities have not taken court action to prevent it. Chino Basin Protective District has been formed. Then the line will start taking water downstream under the dam. That is, if the upper river communities have not taken court action to prevent it. Chino Basin Protective District has been formed, for possible legal action, on the theory that Orange county's operations would drain water from Chino basin. Engineers for that organization, as well as others upriver are now checking engineering data obtained by Orange county, which has made its records freely accessible, as part of an appeasement program, hoping to avert unfriendly action upriver. Anaheim Cafe Hold-Up Pair Get Hearing Fate of Jessie Donette Dixon, 19, and Guy Davis Werle, 18, who pleaded guilty to conspiring to rob an Anaheim cafe, where the girl formerly worked, will be decided December 16 at a probation hearing before Superior Judge Franklin G. West. Another boy and girl, each 17, also involved in the conspiracy, are in juvenile court. Werle, facing an auto-theft charge coincident with the robbery conspiracy, will also receive a probation hearing in connection with the charger. Road Grading Nears Completion Sacramento, (WNS)—C. H. Purcell, state director of public works, today announced that the grading and surfacing of two miles of roadway between Newport Beach and Huntington Beach, in Huntington Beach state park, would be completed December 14. The cost of the project, the director said, is $145,000. The first pier at Atlantic City was opened in July, 1882, and destroyed by a storm in September of the same year.
