To Governor's Employment Meet
Sacramento, (WNS)—The office of Governor Earl Warren has announced that more than 2,000 invitations have been mailed to leaders in every phase of California's economic life to attend the two-day conference on employment here December 5 and 6.
The invitation emphasized that one of the most important problems in California is to have enough jobs for an expanding population. He stated the state has gained more than 3,000,000 people since 1940 and is still growing at the rate of 300,000 annually.
Caution Needed To Prevent Auto Accidents
Sacramento — Numerous recent serious traffic accidents traceable to unfavorable weather and road conditions drew words of warning today from Clifford E. Peterson, Commissioner of the California Highway Patrol.
"The best insurance against trouble in bad weather is extreme caution," Peterson said. "This means caution before starting on a trip as well as during the trip. Be sure your brakes are in good condition, that your windshield wiper is working and that your lights are functioning properly. Tires with worn out treads are dangerous on slippery roads, so check each one carefully. A few minutes of caution may save a lifetime of sorrows."
Peterson also issued a word of caution to persons planning to drive in snow country.
"Call the nearest Highway Patrol office and inquire if chains are needed in the areas you plan to visit," he said. "Never take a chance without them. And watch your speed—it is much harder to stop a fast moving car oh icy pavement than it is on dry pavement. Don't skid yourself."
