Bigger, Better Breakfast for Hallowe'en

Irene Williams and La Zolla Capps, winners of the best costumed couple division, enacted an "Old Sisters" routine. The Sabien Sisters, dressed as an old-fashioned couple pushing a fringed top perambulator took second couple's prize, while Mr. and Mrs. Charles Neukom were awarded third place for their '49er Bowery Interpretation.
Rigged as a "Glamor Girl of Back Street," Mrs. W. E. Sullivan was chosen the best costume Hallowe'en woman. Second place went to Bessie Peterson who portrayed the "Spirit of Hallowe'en." As a humorous "Hilo Hattie," Miss Adaline Curtis tripped away with third prize.
In the man's individual costume division, "Digby" Davis won first place as the "Slick Chick" of '49. Alex Evans stalked away with second place as "The Devil," while Dennis Adams bounced across the stage attired as a double clown to win third prize.
Enacting the "Madam" from Bret Hart's book, "Outcasts from Poker Flats," Mrs. Blanche Disney was named the best costumed individual '49 woman. Bill Trapp took first place with his rugged western garb in the man's '49er class, while Bill Fackiner, the Mad Russian, who had a one-word vocabulary of "No," took second prize, and Joe Kopsho with his impersonation of Abe Lincoln won third place.

Too float award was shared by the George Washington school entry and the Magnolia school of George Washington float depicted Peter Pumpkin Eater and his wife with Ronda Collins and Kay Schmidt while the Magnolia school entered the three bears with Patti Jo Vandenburg, Terry and David Vanderburg and Jim White. Second place went to the "Anaheim or Bust," covered wagon entry of Horace Mann with Larry Boydin and Harry Heitmiller in the float. Third went to Wayne and Gene Newkirk of Zion Lutheran.
Special awards went to Joan Peek and Larry Hood, Lincoln school, Easter chick and bunny entry; Dianna and Melody Bradd, Mary and her lamb; David and Daniel Claypool, Zion Lutheran school as two negro men; Martin Brothers, Savanna school, Daniel Boone and the rabbit; Alice Jean Brown, Wendy Burgess, Lincoln school, black cats; Larry Choice, Nolan and Lona Merkley, Magnolia, the three pigs; Frank Castro, and sister, Horace Mann, Spanish costumes.
Judging was by members of the various women's clubs of the city.

Enthusiastic applause greeted the star-studded vaudeville show, emceed by Benny Rubin, comedy star of stage, screen and radio. Rubin, who recently finished an engagement at the Orpheum theatre, introduced the Three Rio Brothers, comedy knockabout artists, also of Orpheum and Los Angeles Police Show fame.
Selections sung by Cecil Stewart's Royal Rogues, a six-man vocal group featuring Mark Cook, were hailed. The Royal Rogues currently are holding forth at the Los Angeles television exposition.
Hilarity reigned as Bedell and Matson, comedy pantomimists, and Curry, Boyd and LeRoy, dance trio, provided "loads of laughs." Nat Young was music director.

Deep appreciation for the wonderful cooperation of many individuals, groups and companies in aiding with the breakfast was expressed today by Paul Yorde, over-all breakfast chairman. He gave a special thank you to those of the Alex Tamale factory and others who assisted with pre-breakfast arrangements Sunday at the Elks club.

Sell 600 Acres Of Irvine Estate
The Irvine Company recently purchased 600 acres of the James Irvine estate property, with the sale reportedly to have been made by the executors of the James Irvine will to pay inheritance taxes of the estate.
Located west of Los Alamitos, part of the acreage is in Orange county and the remainder in Los Angeles county. The some 600 acres is used chiefly for agriculture.
The land had been purchased from the Bixby interest and from the estate of Susanna Bixby Bryant. Sales price is listed at $508,102.

Sacramento, (WNS)—Polio cases reported to the state department of public health last week totaled 101, a slight increase over the week previous, according to a report issued by the department today.
