Plan Birthday Celebration for Stock Exchange Plans were well under way this week for the 50th anniversary celebration of the Los Angeles Stock Exchange, commemorating the founding of southern California's financial community, according to Edwin L. Harbich, observance committee chairman. Civic, fraternal and business organizations, deeming the Exchange's golden jubilee celebration a significant mile post in the industrial development of southern California, are planning appropriate observance celebrations in every southland community with exhibits, public demonstrations and service clube events. Harbach said that the entire investment fraternity of southern California will participate in the observance, which extends from November 15 through December 15, 1949. The Exchange's anniversary date is December 7. This Friday Last rites for Albert A. Foster, 81, who died at his home, 519 East Broadway, Anaheim, Wednesday, will be conducted tomorrow (Friday) afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Backs, Campbell and Kaulbars chapel with the Rev. Al Casebeer of the Christian church, officiating. A native of Ohio, Mr. Foster had resided here for the past 22 years. Interment will be in Anaheim cemetery. Surviving are two daughters, Farmers to Elect Officers The annual election of committeemen to serve the twelve agricultural community districts of Orange county will be held on Tuesday, November first, from 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the county PMA office, 622 North Main street, Santa Ana, according to a statement released today by Roy L. Hale, present chairman of the county PMA committee. Ballots have already been mailed to all eligible farmers, Hale stated, so that those who prefer to return their ballots by mail have sufficient time to do so. This announcement, Hale explained, is for the purpose of letting all farmers in the county know that the election is to take place, so that if any fail to receive a ballot by mail they may have an opportunity to vote on election day. Convention Delegates In addition to electing the community officers, a delegate and an alternate delegate to the county convention will be elected on the same ballot. The twelve delegates from the county agricultural districts will meet in the near future and elect the county PMA committee for next year. This procedure is for the purpose of insuring that the county PMA committee will be selected by farmer-elected representatives, Hale explained. Should the farmers of any district prefer other officers than those selected by the farmer nominating committee, provision is made on the ballot for the writing in of the names of the desired officers, and Hale stated that this Last rites for Albert A. Young Democrats Deny Support Of Prop. 2 Endorsement of Proposition 2 by the so-called representatives of the defunct Young Democrats of California, Inc., was challenged sharply yesterday by the Southern Executive Board of the California Federation of Young Democratic Clubs, the only official youth organization of the Democratic party in California. Richard H. Keatinge, Southern California Chairman of the Federation stated "this phony endorsement was made without authority or permission of any officially recognized young Democratic group in California." "This unofficial left-wing rump organization has again announced a stand without the knowledge of the Democratic party in California, using the name of Young Democrats to confuse and mislead the Democratic voters of the state." Keatinge pointed out "the pernicious action of an unauthorized segment of self-styled leaders in flaunting the wishes of the majority is in reality a feeble attempt to revive a discredited paper organization." "California Federation of Young Democrats clubs is the only official youth organization of the Democratic party in California and has been sanctioned by State Chairman Oliver J. Carter, national committeewoman Elinor Heller, National committeeman James Roosevelt, and has the approval of the Los Angeles and San Diego counties central committees." Witches’ Brew For Hallowe’en Tricks or Treat When the ghosts and goblins ring the doorbells for “trick or treat” this year, have a pot of “Witches’ Brew” ready for them, suggests home advisor Anne Girod of the University of California agricultural extension service. This hot spiced cider punch will taste good on a crisp evening, and warm the hearts of the most cold-blooded ghosts. Ingredients needed are: 1 quart hot tea 1 gallon sweet cider Juice of 5 lemons 5 oranges sliced ½ teaspoon salt 1 pound brown sugar (or less) 3 sticks cinnamon 1 tablespoon allspice 1 tablespoon whole cloves 2 pieces whole mace Mix the lemon juice, sugar, cider, and the seasonings. Boil for 15 minutes. Add the hot tea and orange slices. Serve hot. Use paper cups with handles for the punch, and decorate them with Hallowe’en stickers of pumpkins and witches. Knowland announced today. Philatelists and others interested are invited to submit ideas at the Commission office, Ferry Building, San Francisco, attention George Heinz, executive secretary. Suggestions Received Suggestions already submitted include reproduction of the steamship Oregon entering San Francisco Bay with pennants flying, bringing first news of California's statehood. Another suggested design utilized the Great Seal of California as background. Chairman Knowland pointed out that simplicity of design, avoiding too great detail, was essential. The first California Centennial stamp was the Gold Discovery issue, released at Colona on January 24, 1948. This depicted Sutter's Mill on the American River. Catchets of this stamp cancelled at Colona on Discovery Day, are now philatelist items. The Rockefeller Foundation, philanthropic trust instituted by John D.
