Social and Club Activities
Teachers of City Schools Party Guests Monday Eve
Superintendent and Mrs. M. A. Gauer and members of the school board and their wives, Mr. and Mrs. Hérbert H. Stabbert, Mr. and Mrs. John P. Mary, Jr., and Mr. and Mrs. Tom Henry were hosts to one hundred teachers, their wives and husbands last Monday evening at the Ebell club. Mr. Stabbert is president of the school board. The above were in the receiving line.
After the arrival of all the guests, Mr. Stabbert took over the duties as master of ceremonies, conducting as the first on the program a mixer game for the group. The evening was spent in mixers and parlor games with prize winners being Miss Mildred Mauerhan, Mrs. Barbara Smith and Mrs. Bernice Jolly.
Testing the poise and grace of the male members of the party, baskets were placed on the heads of the men and ping-pong balls were tossed into the baskets. Those winning the prize in this game were Mr. and Mrs. Bud Slingsby.
Truth or Consequences played the 'school teacher' way brought no correct answers and the conse-
drive. Any woman interested in doing her part toward preserving this nation's resources is urged to become a member. Further information can be obtained from Mrs. Sam Loard or Mrs. John Henry.
One new member, Mrs. L. N. Wisser, was welcomed into the club.
Beta Sigma Phi Sponsoring Sister Kenny Appearance
Southern California's 105 chapters of Beta Sigma Phi are rallying to support of the Sister Elizabeth Kenny Foundation by sponsoring not only her one appearance in the southland, October 24, but also pledging financial aid toward clinic beds. The local chapter is whole-heartedly supporting this work in this city.
The Southern California Council of Beta Sigma Phi, headed by Mrs. F. N. Masemore of Arcadia, is presenting the program honoring Sister Kenny at 8 p.m. on that date in the Elk's Club, 607 South Parkview Avenue, in Los Angeles. She has appointed Mrs. Helen Hansen of Long Beach, as chairman of the event.

A program featuring classic and contemporary will be played by the Los A Philharmonic Orchestra who comes to Santa Ana, Saturday tober 29. It will be the first after the orchestra opens its 50 season, with Music Direct Fred Wallenstein conducting.

A beautiful arrangement of autumn fruits was used on one of the tables, carrying out the autumn decorative theme. The tea table was appointed with an arrangement of dahlias, chrysanthemums and autumn leaves with white candles completing the setting. Mrs. Stabbert and Mrs. Mary poured with Mrs. Henry and Mrs. Gauer assisting in serving.
Anaheim Ikettes Plan Charter Nite Program Nov. 16
Final plans for the charter night party was completed, under the direction of Mrs. Arch Henry, at a recent meeting of the Anaheim Ikettes, ladies group of the Izaak Walton chapter of this city, when they met at the home of Mrs. John O'Kane at 124 North Philadelphia street. The party will be held on November 18 at the I.O.O.F. hall on West Center street at 8 p.m.
Mrs. O'Kane is the over-all chairman for this affair. Committees have been appointed to take care of the refreshments, entertainment and the games. The Fulerton Ann Newman chapter has been invited as well as friends and husbands of the Ikettes.
Mrs. John Henry, membership chairman, reported that the membership drive is now in full swing. The women are divided into two groups with each group working to get the most members. The leaders are to entertain the winner with a party at the close of the

LA Philharmonic To Perform in Santa Ana
A program featuring notable classic and contemporary works will be played by the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra when it comes to Santa Ana, Saturday, October 29. It will be the first concert after the orchestra opens its 1949 season, with Music Director Alfred Wallenstein conducting.
For the Santa Ana concert the orchestra will play the popular and melodious Symphony No. 7 by Ludwig von Beethoven and Ernst von Dohnanyl's well known suite or orchestra, Op. 19.
Nell Tangeman, mezzo sporano, will be the soloist to sing works by Arnold Schoenberg and Samuel Barber. Barber is a young native american and Schoenberg is prominent among moderns especially for his famous 12 tone scale.
The soprano will sing the Lied der Waldaube (or song of the Wood Dove) from Schoenberg's Gurrelieder* and three songs by barber: Nocturne, Sure on This Shining Night and I Hear and Army. Schoenberg recently celebrated his 75th birthday at his home in Los Angeles. He retired few years ago as professor of music at the University of California, Los Angeles campus.

Friendship Circle Have Farewell for Mrs. J. K. Jung
Mrs. J. K. Jung, wife of Capt. J. K. Jung, former pastor of Grace Thirty-two members were present for the meeting and party, the evening opening with the devotion being led by Mrs. C. A. Benzel, with Mrs. Fred Leibl, president, presiding at the meeting.
During the business session, plans were discussed for the Dutch dinner to be held on November 4, beginning at 5 p.m. and serving through 8 p.m. to be held in the church basement. Plans were also discussed for the bazaar to be held in December.
The autumn theme was carried out in the decorations with the color scheme being lavender and yellow chrysanthemums. At the conclusion of the evening refreshments of cake and coffee were served.
Zion Lutheran Ladies to Hold Two-Day Festival
Dorcas Society of Zion Lutheran church will hold a two-day Fall Festival on Thursday and Friday in the parish hall, according to plans that have just been completed.
On Thursday evening the ladies will serve a delicious ham dinner beginning at 5 p.m. and serving through 7 p.m. At eight o'clock the same evening a sound movie will be shown entitled "The Sickle or The Cross." This picture is free to those wishing to attend.
On Friday a roast beef dinner will be served from 5 until 7 p.m. Booths of baked goods, handwork and a country store will be featured each evening.
Mrs. Willard Wright is commissary chairman, and Miss Mary Maass and Mrs. Erick Winger are in charge of reservations.
Soloist, it was announced today by R. J. Rossber, manager of the local office of The Pacific Telephone and Telegraph company. The weekly broadcast will be heard, as usual, at 9 p.m. over NBC stations.
The program was chosen from NBC's entire nationwide schedule to give the network's coast-to-coast salute to the United Nations on Charter Day. Each of the other networks also have selected one program to honor the UN on their anniversary day.
Besides selected solos by Heifetz on the broadcast, special commemorative music will be presented by the 57-piece Bell Telephone orchestra, conducted by Donald Voorhees, the manager stated.
Padua Hills Theatre in Early Days Production
Scions of early California families will have an active part in reviving the music, songs and dances of their forefathers in "Festivales de California," the new production of the Mexican Players, which had a festive opening Wednesday, at the Padua Hills theatre.

Friendship Circle Have Farewell for Mrs. J. K. Jung
Mrs. J. K. Jung, wife of Capt. J. K. Jung, former pastor of Grace Lutheran church of this city and now on duty in Germany as a chaplain with the armed forces, was honored last Tuesday evening when members of the Friendship Circle had a farewell and hand-erchief shower in the church carlors. Mrs. Jung plans to leave for Wiebach, Germany, in November to join her husband.

Director Charles A. Dickinson is presenting the musical story of California, as reflected by its flies and other ceremonials, in four sections, from the early Indian voices numbers of the 1770's to the day cuadrillas of the 1880's.
The program, the result of intensive research in museums and archives of Spanish-California more, and including more than 30 numbers, probably will be the most complete repertoire of purely California songs, dances and orchestrations ever presented in a theatre anywhere.
Following the opening matinee, Festivales de California" will be taged Wednesday through Saturday evenings, and Wednesday and Saturday afternoons, through November 26.

Assistance League Auxiliary Plan Future Programs
Mrs. William Stehly, assisted by Mrs. Charles Pearson and Mrs. John A. Larson, were hostesses to members of the Anaheim Auxiliary of the Orange County Assistance League last Thursday for one o'clock luncheon in the former's home at 512 South West street.
A short business meeting was held following the luncheon with the balance of the afternoon spent in planning future programs and philanthropies the group carry on each year.
The members voted to contribute $100 to the Community Chest and various members volunteered their services in this work.
Final approval was given to the future support of the two scholarships the auxiliary are financing, the first of these being assistance to a veteran attending college and the other to a young woman who is taking nurses training.
Members are working on Christmas gifts which they will offer at a Christmas meeting. They have also announced they still have cookbooks to sell.
Chairman Mrs. Ernest Ganahl presided at the meeting. The balance of the afternoon was spent socially.
