These new cleaners, called detergents, actually make water "wetter"... attract dirt and grease almost like a magnet. They make dishes sparkle, work well with all fabrics in hard or soft water, clean cars, and they have many other home and industrial uses. The practical means of making detergents from oil came out of Standard of California research... by risking substantial sums for experimentation and development. The results: new products to make your work easier, new manufacturing and selling jobs, a company better able to serve you and all the West. AUHS—Speech Correction Classes Enroll 50,000 Students Sacramento, (WNS)—More than 50,000 young Californians are on their way to better speech as a result of the state department of education's speech correction program. In Orange county alone, there were 1,461 students enrolled in the speech correction classes last school year, while throughout the state, there were 17 speech correction teachers, with 51,076 students. While the classes do not try for a Harvard accent, they never-the-less attempt, the department said, to teach normal speech to those students with defects. The department said the pattern followed that in past years, with more than three times as many boys and girls exhibiting nervous speech disorders, and more boys than girls handicapped by articulatory defects, whiche include sound substitution, infantile speech, delayed speech and oral inactivity. The classes, the department reports, resulted in improvement for more than half of the students, and completed correction for more than a fifth of those enrolled. Only a small percentage of the students were reported as unimproved.
