Alexander Omalov is the new mentor of the Hornet cage squad and Walt Lumsford is the new coach of the 1950 track squad.
Omalov, graduate and stellar S. C. athlete was an All-American in his senior year, and played A.A.U. ball for Twentieth-Century Fox where he served as a researcher. He instructs in speech, radio, and dramatics at the college.
Lunsford won his letters in cross-country and distance events at the University of Washington and coached at several junior colleges in that state. He comes to Fullerton from Centralia Junior College. Lunsford is a Lt. Commander in the Naval Reserve with three years service on PT boats. In addition to his coaching, he instructs classes for the high school students in driver education.
Sponsor Knot-Hole Gang for Football Games
The Anaheim Optimist Club Board of Governors at their regular monthly meeting last evening (Tuesday) voted unanimously to approve president Walter Gooden's proposal to sponsor a Knot-Hole Gang for the coming high school football season. The club will distribute cards through the schools and, in co-operation with Paul Demaree of the high school and Vic Rudy of La Palma Park, will act as hosts to the youngsters during home games.
At this weeks meeting, the club will be hosts to the Senior Optimist Club baseball team and to Vic Reudy and his staff of La Palma Park in recognition of the good work he has done with youth and the excellent showing of the baseball team in their games, it was announced by J. W. Stephens, program chairman.
The board appointed Tom Yellis, chairman of the building committee, and Louis Larson, chairman of the Boys' Work Committee, to report at next month's meeting on the long range plan of youth work in connection with the pro-trying out their passing arms.
A real need for a kicker on the Quaker squad was effectively demonstrated in punting drills. None of the present Poet toe specialists looked outstanding, but several showed promise.
The Poets worked out every afternoon this week, and will travel to Santa Barbara on Friday.
Ready Del Mar Track For Motorcycles
Removal of the loam soil from the surface of the Del Mar mile racing strip began Monday as workmen with power machinery started to drag the soft cushion to the outside fence where it will remain until next season when the horses return for their scheduled meet. The underneath hard clay surface on which the motorcycle championship races will be held Sunday afternoon, October 2nd, will provide a very fast track whereby new records are likely to be established. Keen interest has been shown in the return of big-time motorcycle racing to the Southland after an absence of 22 years by the advance ticket sales and from all indications, the S.R.O. signs will be put out before the first event gets under way.
The American machines will face some very tough competition from the 1 Italian and 7 British makes that will face the starter's flag in the 10 event program which is climaxed with the 25 mile Pacific Coast championship. The big race of the day will be open only to the winners of the pre-Nature Does Job

The board appointed Tom Yellis, chairman of the building committee, and Louis Larson, chairman of the Boys' Work Committee, to report at next month's meeting on the long range plan of youth work in connection with the proposed Recreational Building, and to submit rough plans of the minimum first wing of the building. It is proposed to build the building in units thereby making available some facilities at an early date and additional units as funds become available in accordance with the present plans of the organization.
Poets Drill for Opener With Santa Barbara
Whittier—Lengthy practice sessions continue here this week as Coach Wallace "Chief" Newman send his Whittier College Poets into their second week of preparations for their opener against the Santa Barbara College Gauchos Friday night.
Chief emphasis is placed on conditioning as the Quakers undergo a series of heavy scrimages.
In passing drills veteran letterman Quarterback Dick Tucker looked like the best bet to carry on the Poets' aerial attack. Newcomer Bill Luman also looked good in a passing drill which saw all the prospective quarterbacks

Reserved seat tickets are still on sale at Stilwell's motorcycle store at 239 North Los Angeles street in Anaheim.
Flores Takes On Holmes at Legion Friday
Anaheim will be well represented at Hollywood Legion stadium Friday evening with Sal Flores appearing in the four round special and Danny Mendez (Santa Ana) managed by Hank Robles of this city fighting in one of the other tours.
Robles trained Flores when the local middleweight was managed by Ben Agajanian.
Flores returns to action against Georgie Holmes after dropping guard fought rematch to Marie McFarland two weeks in the fimiand arena. The fight was even up to the closing seconds when McFarland landed a crushing blow to the schnoozola of the local boy, outting him out of commission.
Mendez takes on Jackie Condon.
Featured in the main event are Rudy Garcia and Jackie Blair. Blair has been seen frequently at Baron Von Stumme's peroxide palace and although not a crowdpleaser has chalked up 18 wins in 20 appearances here.
Garcia is unbeaten in 15 fights and was the 1948 Golden Gloves champ in this state. He went as far as the semi-finals in the national tournament.

mission, will get a $2 "tresspass fee" from every hunter who draws a number permitting him to hunt deer during a specified week. Only 150 hunters a week will be allowed on the island, for a period of ten weeks. Each week a new set of hunters will try for a deer. A limit of one deer of either sex may be taken during the season.
Meanwhile, the Catalina company plans to operate "concurrently" a wild pig hunting season. The fish and game commission has no jurisdiction over wild pigs, as they are not classed as game, so the Catalina company will charge a $5 fee for the privilege of shooting one of these animals.
The Catalina hunt, it was learned, is being sponsored by a sportsman's organization in Southern California.
Closed During Season
Although the island is said to teem with deer, it is closed to hunting during the open season on deer in coastal counties, due, division of fish and game officials said, to the refusal of the company to permit hunters on its property.
The fish and game commission has jurisdiction over deer hunting on the island because of the fact that not all of the property is owned by the company.
The commission, however, has decreed that the island is a special fish and game district, and makes laws specifically pertaining to the area. Consequently, the deer season on Catalina is closed when it is open during August in the coastal area.

Cataline Deer Hunt Starts November 1
SACRAMENTO, (WNS)—When deer herds became overpopulated, it's necessary to shoot them out.
This was the opinion expressed today by Assemblyman Lloyd Lowrey, of Rumsey, when he commented on a proposed deer hunt on Catalina Island, which will last from November 1 to the latter part of January.
"It's about time the fish and game commission took some kind of action," the assemblyman declared.
"In the Capay valley, we had a somewhat similar problem. Instead of acting to delete the deer herds, the commission sent biologists around to study the situation.
Nature Does Job
"Meanwhile, the deer contracted a disease, and nature killed them off, so we don't have the problem any more, or at least, not as bad as it was. But the fish and game commission did nothing toward immediate solving of the problem."
The Catalina Island hunt is the first of its kind in the state, as far as can be determined from records of the fish and game commission.
Deer have been bothering landowners for more than a year in that area, Lowery said, by eating trees, bushes and other plants.
The Catalina Island company owns both the deer and most of the land on the island, aside from some lots it has sold.
