Plan Reserve Cruises From Long Beach Naval Reservists from this area will train on three additional All Naval Reserve Cruises scheduled for this year. These are the first All Naval Reserve Cruises to be conducted other than during the summer months. Three destroyers manned entirely by Naval Reservists will depart from Long Beach for two week training cruises on October 9th to Seattle; November 19 to San Francisco; and December 3rd to a foreign port to be announced at a later date. This decision was announced by the Director of Training, Eleventh Naval District, upon the completion of three highly successful summer cruises to Honolulu, Portland and Vancouver, B. C., aboard destroyers manned by Reservists from this district. Preparations are well underway for thorough training aboard ship with excellent liberty in each port. Veteran Reservists will receive refresher training while new recruits are being completely indoctrinated in general shipboard procedures as well as in their specialties. Submarines and landbased planes making surprise attacks will provide realism to training at sea. Ample entertainment is being arranged for the Reservists in both Seattle and San Francisco by the Commandants of the Twelfth and Thirteenth Naval Districts. Dances are being scheduled for each port and sightseeing tours arranged. Reservists on the Seattle cruise will have an opportunity to see the famous Snoqualmie Falls, Lake Washington with its floating bridge and the Puget Sound country as a whole. Those cruising to San Francisco will visit beautiful Golden Gate Park, the University of California at Berkeley, the Presidio, and other points of interest. Both inactive and active Reservists are eligible for these two week training cruises, but must make application at least five weeks in advance through their nearest Naval Reserve Training Center.
