Social and Club Activities LOIS REICHARD — Phone 2206 Impressive Candlelight Services Unite Edith Browne-Joseph Shuman Lovely in a gown of white satin fashioned in a basque waist and tufted at the yokeline of net with a quilted rosebud detail was Miss Edith Naomi Browne as she became the bride of Joseph Shuman in impressive candlelight ceremonies at White Temple Methodist church, Saturday, September 3. The Rev. Frank D. Howell of the Church of the Brethren performed the double ring rites before the more than 400 friends and relatives in attendance. A pearl tiara set in her dark hair held her lace edged fingertip veil in place. The sleeves of her gown were pointed at the wrist and the long full skirt ended in a graceful train. She carried a keepsake handkerchief, wore a lucky sixpence in her slipper and the something blue was a dainty blue garter. The bridal bouquet was a gorgeous array of stephanotis with white rose buds nested in the center. Miss Browne was given in marriage by her brother, William John Browne. Matron of honor was her aunt, Mrs. Cy Jones. She wore a gown of pink taffeta styled with a basque waist, off the shoulder neckline with double ruffle at the hemline and rosettes of fresh flowers catching the first ruffle and edging the neckline. A bow at the chin secured the quaint little old fashioned ruffled bonnet to her head. brothec Pfc. C. Smith and their daughter, Donna, from Salinas; and Mr. and Mrs. Vic Budd and son, Rickey, from Los Angeles. Assisting in hostess duties were aunts of the bride, Mrs. W. R. Reinhardt, Mrs. Helen Budd with Mrs. Clyde Smith in charge of the guest book. Mrs. Reinhardt was wearing a gown of black lace. Mrs. Budd wore a stylish rust creation and Mrs. Smith was gowned in blue. They all wore corsages of orchids to complement their dresses. Their flowers and head-dresses also carried out the old fashioned theme. Little Miss Audrey Wyatt, wearing a yellow taffeta floor length frock, identical to the style of the attendants served as flower girl. She carried a dainty nosegay made just for her. The bride's uncle, W. R. Reinhardt, served as best man with Cy Jones, another uncle, and a brother, Ted Browne, as ushers. Ronnie and Tommie Browne, both brothers of the bride, were candlelighters. Preludes of the couple's favorite love melodies were played at the organ by Mrs. Olive Kempin. Mrs. Betty Fackiner Rees was nuptial soloist. Her songs were "Through the Years" and "Because." As the couple stood for the nuptial blessing she sang Malotte's arrangement of "The Lord's Prayer." Using altar baskets of white asters, with fern and shrubs as a background and all appearing the romantic light of lighted tapers in tall candelabra, the bride's uncle, Louis Garrette of Long Beach, decorated for the wedding and reception. The aisle of the church was carpeted in white and the pews were marked with white satin bows and streamers. In the reception line with the newlywedded Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Shuman was Mrs. Alberta Brown, her mother. She chose a copesetta grown in grey silk and wore an orchid shoulder corsage for the occasion. Unable to attend but sending congratulations to the young couple were the bridegroom's parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Shuman of Cleveland, Ohio and the bride's Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Smith and their daughter, Donna, from Salinas; and Mr. and Mrs. Vic Budd and son, Rickey, from Los Angeles. Assisting in hostess duties were aunts of the bride, Mrs. W. R. Remembering a promise he had made when the Miss Browne was a child, her uncle, Alfred Budd of the Snow White Bakery in Long Beach, designed and baked her wedding cake especially for her. It was a breath-taking five tiered white cake with two sheet cakes on each side. It was beautifully decorated, using white rosebuds and silver leaves and the bride and groom statues on the top. As the bridal couple left for their weeks honeymoon, the new Mrs. Shuman appeared in a turquoise knit suit with black accessories and a corsage of white rosebuds. On their return they will make their home at 510 South Ohio street. Mrs. Shuman is the daughter of the late W. V. Brown and Mrs. Alberta Brown of this city. She is a graduate of Anaheim Union high school. While attending AUHS she starred in many musical productions, starting her career as an entertainer and concert singer. She has appeared on many of the county programs and has sung with the Los Angeles Civic Opera association during its season in southern California. She is a past honored queen of Jobs Daughters, Bethel 5; a member of Chispa Chapter, O.E.S. and of the Orange County Musical Arts club. Mr. Shuman attended schools in Cleveland. He served three years in the Navy during World War II. He is a member of the local Elks club and is now business manager of the Reinhardt Appliances, Anaheim. Pomona Campus Club Plans "Get Acquainted Tea" The home of Mrs. Leo Friis on North Clementine street, was the scene last Friday of the meeting of the executive board members of the Orange County branch of the Pomona Campus club. Collins September 24 Following their marriage at St. Joseph Catholic church on September 24, Miss Mary Terese Meyer and John Gerald Collins will make their home in northern California. This announcement was made this week by the parents of the bride-elect, Mr. and Mrs. Julius Meyer, Jr., of 320 West Orange road. Her husband-to-be is the son of Mrs. Claire C. Collins and the late James Joseph Collins of San Francisco. Miss Meyer attended Marywood Academy for girls and Mt. Saint Mary's College for Women. Her fiance was graduated from midshipman's school, Fort Schuler, N.Y. before entering Stanford University where he received his master's degree in business administration. Repeat performances are scheduled for John Charles Thomas, Ferruccio Tagliavani, Pia Tassinari and Lily Pons, and an initial performance by Barbara Gibson.
