Mr. and Mrs. John W. Kochendofer Tour North Lands on Honeymoon
Now on a 17 day honeymoon touring Glacier Park, Lake Tahoe and the Trinity Alps are Mr. and Mrs. John W. Kochendofer, nee Velma V. Woolpert, who exchanged vows in the garden of Capilla de San Antonio on Saturday afternoon, August 20. The Rev. George Tinsley, pastor of the East Side Christian church, officiated at the double ring service.
Preceding the bride down the flower and ribbon-lined aisle to the altar decked with baskets of gladioli and larkspur, was Mrs. Betty Bell of Highland Park, a close friend of the bride, as matron of honor. She wore a gown of dusy rose and carried an arm bouquet of pink glads.
The lovely bride appeared, to be given in marriage by her mother, Mrs. Nanna B. Woolpert of 422 West Amerige avenue, Fullerton, in a traditional satin gown of the Empress period design cut with a sweetheart neckline, leg-o-mutton sleeves, fitted bodice and a full skirt falling to a graceful train. Her finger-tip veil of illusion lace cascaded from a halo of orange blossoms. Special sentiment was found in her necklace of pearls which was a gift to her from her bridegroom and an heirloom handkerchief which she carried.
The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Kochendofer of 724 Brett street, Inglewood. He was attended by Al Johnson of Los Angeles as best man and Frank Thompson and Bill Kistler, cousin of the bride, as ushers.
Favorite love melodies of the couple were played at the console organ by Mrs. Helen Fackiner, soloist, William Fackiner sang "Your Eyes Shining Into Mine" and "Because."
The beautiful Capilla garden was the scene of the wedding reception immediately following the ceremony. More than 150 friends and relatives were present to shower the happy young couple with rice and well wishes.
For the occasion Mrs. Woolpert, mother of the bride, chose a floor length gown of aqua crepe trimmed in lace and worn with match-high school. She attended Fullerton Junior college and the University of California at Los Angeles.

Buzz Business in Greece
Most people think there are already too many mosquitoes in the world, but here is a man raising more. The little buzzers are being used in insecticide tests as part of a drive for the eradication of mosquito-carried malaria, sponsored by the World Health Organization of the United Nations (WHO). WHO has just completed a program of medical assistance, including malaria control in Greece.

Incoming Frosh Have Practical Outlook at SJC
"Incoming freshman students definitely have their eyes on practical vocational training, especially in the field of business education according to a tabulation pre-registration figures compiled this week," Dr. Daniel McNaughton, Santa Ana college direct stated today.
Three week pre-registration fumes indicate a 35 per cent increase in total enrollment over the same period last year. Further analysis of freshman projrams during the first three weeks of registration shows a 56 per cent increase in enrollment in business education courses over last year. The courses include accounting, investments, real estate law, business law, business organization, principles of insurance, merchandising, secretarial and office practice training.
Adult interest in improving the own business methods and increasing their knowledge of general background of business problems has made it practical schedule such courses during this day. For the convenience of many adults, many of these business courses have been scheduled meet at 8:00 a.m. in order not interfere with business hours.
Engineering and pre-teach seem to be holding about the same degree of interest as last year. Vocational (Diesel and Gasoline ranchics) show a slight increase while professional engineering falls off approximately 1 percent.
Pre-med, pre-pharmacy, pre-denistst, and pre-nursing candidates
George O. Murcher takes Jeannette Nelson as Bride
In a beautiful ceremony performed by her father, the Rev. J. F. Nelson, Jeannette Nelson became the bride of George O. Thatcher, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. O. Thatcher of 924 North Olive street, Anaheim, on Saturday, August 27, in the Garvlia Community Presbyterian church, Wilmar, California.
Brightly lighted candles cast romantic shadows on the altar where the double ring rites were performed. White blossoms in graceful wicker baskets were used to decorate and arrangements of ivy and fern set the background.
The bride, who is the daughter of the Rev. and Mrs. Nelson of Morro Bay, was beautiful in an ivory satin princess style gown designed with a sweetheart neckline with inserts of lace and satin rosebuds on the bodice. The long pointed sleeves and the train which fell from the full skirt was edged in lace. This gown held special sentiment for the bride because it had been worn by her sister at her marriage. Chosen as the bride's bouquet was a gorgeous arrangement of white carnations from which cascaded gardenias and stephanotis tied with knotted streamers.
Mrs. John Holmes, matron of honor, was attired in a gown of ice blue satin fashioned with a low round neckline, tight fitting bodice and a full circular skirt. She carried a cascade arrangement of yellow rosebuds. Serving as bridesmaids were, Mrs. Roldo West, Miss Beverly Reed and Miss Ruth Thatcher. They wore gowns in identical design and harmonizing with the matron of honors and carried arm bouquets of lavender asters.
Serving as best man was the brother of the groom, Gerald Thatcher. Acting as ushers were, Harry Heckman, Wayne King, Lenzi Allred, Rollo West and John Holmes.
Pre-nuptial music was furnished by Mrs. Jim Bowman at the organ. Singing "I Love Thee," "One Alone" and "O Perfect Love" was Donna Lee Flynn, soloist.
Ivy, fern and white flowers were used to decorate for the reception which was held in the church parlor immediately following the marriage ceremony. A three tiered wedding cake centered the brides table with tall candles in beautiful silver holders flanking it.
For the occasion the brides mother chose a dress in navy crepe with white accessories, and a corsage of white carnations. Mrs. Thatcher wore a soft green crepe and satin gown with white accessories as she and her husband left more than 300 guests in attendance.
The new Mrs. Thatcher is a graduate of Mark Keppel high school and Whittier college and is now teaching in an elementary school. While in college she was a member of the Palmer Society and the college orchestra. Mr. Thatcher is a graduate of Anaheim Union high school and Fullerton Junior college. He is now a music major at Whittier college and plans to teach in that field in the future.
On their return from their honeymoon the young couple will establish their home at 605 Earlham Drive, Whittier.
WW I Vets to Get Insurance Dividend Checks
Some 435,000 veteran holders of so-called World War I insurance will receive special dividend checks ranging from a few dollars to several hundred dollars early in September, Veterans Administration said today.
The payments total 40 million dollars, VA said. They will go to persons who took out U.S. government life insurance on a permanent plan at any time prior to January 1, 1944, and kept it in force through December of 1948.
Not all permanent plan policy holders are entitled to this dividend because some have not built up their full reserve. Moreover, no special dividend is payable on any USGLI term policy.
Most of the recipients already have received regular dividends annually on their policies. The additional dividend is the result of a recently completed restudy of the condition of the USGLI trust fund, and the amount of the reserve which is necessary to meet obligations.
VA emphasized that there is no connection between this dividend payment and the forthcoming special dividend on National Service Life (World War II) insurance. Assets of the two insurance pro-
