A shall be made in accordance with methods adopted by the American Society for Testing Materials proved by the American Steel Association. In 1942, he was also visiting lecturer at the Virginia Theological Seminary. In 1943, he gave up these positions to return to California as Rector of St. Matthews church, San Mateo. In early 1948, he was elected Dean and Rector of St. Paul's Cathedral, Los Angeles, to replace the former Dean, the Rev. Francis Eric Bloy, who was made third Bishop of Los Angeles. In the middle of the year 1948, after study at Yale Divinity school, he received from that institution his degree of Ph.D., in Religion.
