L.A. County Fair Folders Available At C. of C. Offices The Anaheim Chamber of Commerce has just received a quantity of beautiful souvenir folders graphically describing the 22nd Annual Los Angeles County Fair at Pomona September 16 to October 2. Printed in three colors, the brochure is profusely illustrated with pictures of the 400-acre exposition park, the huge exhibit buildings, feature displays and scenes from the 20 major divisions into which the fair is divided this year. The folders are for free distribution. In addition to the pictures and descriptive matter the folder contains a map of the grounds to assist in locating the different departments and information relative to the facilities offered to the visitors. The chamber has also received a supply of information pamphlets answering the questions usually asked in advance relative to admission prices, how to enter exhibits, automobile parking, judging dates, the general daily program and the hours for the races, horse show, stage shows and other features. For those planning a visit to the fair the folder and the information will be especially helpful. Others may desire copies to mail to out-of-state relatives and friends. Air Base Vets To Be Guests Of County Fair Santa Ana—All Army veterans who served at the Santa Ana Army Air Base during World War II are being invited to attend the 1949 Orange County Fair as guests of California's Thirty-Second District Agricultural Association, sponsor of the event. Dates for the 1949 Orange County Fair have been set for August 18-21, inclusive. The event will serve as a "Homecoming" for the veterans since the Orange County Fair will open next week, for its first season, on the new, permanent fairgrounds located on a portion of the former air base. She succeeds Robin Burr, who recently resigned to establish her own home as Mrs. A. J. Brisco of Honolulu. Miss Girod is a native of Oregon and a graduate in home economics from Oregon State College. According to Miss Claribel Nye, state home demonstration leader, University of California, Miss Girod came well grounded in home demonstration work and 4-H activities with young rural people. She graduated with highest honors at the Oregon college and has had considerable radio work in connection with station KOAC, Corvallis. The new assistant will conduct 4-H club work with the fifteen girls 4-H clubs in Orange county, with plans for continued expansion in this youth program in the rural areas of the county. Her first endeavors during the balance of August will be directed towards the 4-H Club exhibits at the Orange County Fair and assistance in the Home Departments exhibits. Hayes, chief of farm placement for the State Department of Employment, today advised migrant farm workers to stay on the job as long as they have one before moving on. “There is a surplus of migrant labor in the State,” Hayes said, “and many workers are being disappointed when moving to a new crop area to find no jobs and no living facilities available.” Hayes also advised workers to travel as little as possible. “Before leaving an area at the end of a harvest, workers should call at the local Department of Employment office to see if other work is available or soon to start in the same area. The office also has information about crops, harvest dates, and labor needs in other areas. By using this farm labor information service, workers can save themselves useless and expensive travel and disappointment.” Hayes’ final word of advice to the worker is that one can frequently earn more money during a season by staying longer on a job though the wage may seem low, than by shifting about in search of higher wages, which involves lost time at work, costly travel, and uncertainty in finding jobs and living facilities.
