Return from Honeymoon Now making their home in Santa Ana, following their honeymoon, and receiving many guests from this vicinity are Mr. and Mrs. Carl C. Tanner, whose marriage took place June 23. The bride, the former Phyllis Barress, daughter of Mrs. Emma Barress of 317 East Cypress street, Anaheim, is a graduate of Anaheim Union high school, class of June, 1949. Her husband graduated from Santa Ana high school, class of 1946, and currently is employed with the United States Post Office department in Santa Ana. The nuptials were read by Bishop George Sandstrom in his home at Lemon Heights. The couple were accompanied by Mrs. Cleo Spoeth and Clifford Austerman. An aqua blue sport suit and white accessories, worn by the bride, was accented with a corsage of white gladioli and gardenias. Following the wedding, a reception was given at the bride's Cypress street home with more than 65 guests attending. Assisting with the hostess duties were Mrs. Philo Tozer of Newport Heights, who cut and served the wedding cake. Mrs. Cleo Spoeth of Santa Ana, Mrs. Don Bigler of Anaheim and Mrs. Keith Barress of Yorba Linda attended to the other refreshments. Mrs. Juanita Ross, post-nuptial soloist, sang "The Lilac Tree" and "I Love You Truly" accompanied by Mrs. James Starr at the piano. The young newlyweds left later that evening on a hopeymoon, later returning to their Santa Ana home. The family resided in a cabin on Mussel Creek located on the southeast coast of Oregon near Gold beach. “Although we found no gold and lost some, we enjoyed swimming, catching small fish and picking blackberries and raspberries,” the pastor laughed. Of special interest to him was a 30-mile trip up the Rogue river on a mail boat. As described in a recent issue of Sunset magazine, the boat travels up-river by “climbing the riffles of the road.” The aquatic mail carrier navigates shallow areas by raising and lowering its propeller which is mounted on springs. The Anaheim family visited relatives during a side trip to British Columbia. Cool weather was enjoyed during the trip as well as a warm welcome, he commented. ENGAGEMENT OF BEACH GIRL TOLD The engagement of Miss Marilyn Taylor, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Taylor of Laguna Beach, to James J. Schmitz, son of Mr. and Mrs. P. W. Schmitz of Anaheim was told this week. The bride-elect, a graduate of Laguna Beach high school, attended Fullerton Junior college. Her bridegroom-to-be was graduated from Anaheim Union high school and is currently a student at Fullerton Junior college. No date has been set for the wedding. Of his travels, Critchfield said that he, his wife and three children had a wonderful trip although they encountered some hot weather in the east. Enroute to New York they visited his mother in Ohio. Their children remained at her home while the couple attended the International convention. Mystery Reigns Mystery shrouds this week's program as club spokesmen kept mum upon the program scheduled in addition to president Critchfield's speech. Impressive surprise entertainment is in store for members was all to which they would admit. Adolph Schoepe, president of "Schoepe In Germany" KwiKset Locks, Incorporated, told his fellow Lions last week of his recent trip to Germany where he visited his mother who lives in Frankfurt, located in the American zone. Program chairman for the occasion was Stan Weldon. July Disability Checks Total $28,951 Here Workers in the Orange county area collected $28,951.49 in State Disability Insurance payments during the month of July, according to the most recent report from V. T. Hetzel, district manager of the program. Disability insurance is intended to partially offset the worker's wage loss during periods of illness or injury. This program is wholly financed by the 1% Unemployment insurance tax deducted from the employees pay. It is observed that disabled workers continue to lose benefits because they are not aware of the existence of the Disability Insur-ance program. Therefore workers who, because of illness or injury, are off work eight days or more, should inquire at the nearest office of the department of employ-ment or write to Post Office Box 469, Long Beach, regarding eligibility requirements and filing procedures. Announcing the hearings, W. B. Woodburn, chief of the bureau, said that since the last reduction the minimum prices for milk, effective May 1, dairy concentrates and alfalfa hay have declined in price. The department desires to know what effect these declines have had in the cost producing and distributing milk. In the Orange county area the public hearing will be held Wednesday, August 17 at 10 a.m. in the Santa Ana City Hall. L. H.
