Legion; Optimist Teams in Action Friday Evening
Another baseball doubleheader is in the offering for local fans Friday evening with the American Legion team and the newly formed Optimist nine seeing action at the La Palma park diamond.
Both teams have tough assignments cut out for them with the Legionnaires meeting a strengthened Santa Ana nine which has taken advantage of the disbanded Garden Grove team to get more players.
The Optimists take on a strong Costa Mesa Merchant outfit in the second game of the evening. The Merchants are coming to town with a five-game winning streak and are well-stocked with ex-college and semi-pro stars. Most of the players are older than the Optimist-sponsored nine.
It looks like the doubleheader feature of the Legion and Optimist teams is to become a permanent fixture at La Palma—one welcomed by the fans who have yearned to see the Anaheim boys perform.

Ritz; 20-30 Score Wins in City BB Action
The high-flying Ritz Cleaners team continued in its winning ways by hammering the KwiKset team 13-0 in a City League game Wednesday evening.
Vince Mazza's big bat aided the Cleaner's cause with three for three including a homerun. Art Bielefeld duplicated the feat with a four-bagger of his own.
While the offense was rolling the defense was doing the same with a pair of Ritz hurlers—Altheide and Cram—setting 14 of the opposition via the strikeout route.
The KwiKset team garnered five hits.

Junior Legion Wins in Eighth
Anaheim's Junior American Legion team went on a scoring binge in the eighth inning of their game with Newport Harbor to score seven runs and win 9-7.
The game was played Tuesday afternoon at La Palma. A return engagement of the two teams is slated for next Wednesday, July 6 here.
Manager Vic Ruedy's 14-year-old wonders went scoreless for the first four innings of play and trailed 6-0. They tallied for two in the fifth and then exploded in the eighth.
Highlighting the play of the locals was the hitting of Herbel, the pitching of Roberts and the stellar defensive play of Cone.

Errant Hunters Set New Record
San Francisco, June 30.—Arrests and fines for violations of the Fish and Game Code will reach another all-time high during the current fiscal year, it is indicated by records of the Division of Fish and Game.
As of June 1, California judges and wardens had teamed up to penalize 6,176 errant sportsmen with fines totaling $31,432. The previous 11-month record was set between July 1, 1947 and June 1, 1948, when 5,665 arrests brought fines aggregating $253,844.
Out of a total of 477 arrests made in May, 1949, only four defendants were found not guilty, and five cases dismissed. Fines brought $15,727 to state and county fish and game preservation funds during the month.
TROUT FISHING IMPROVES
Trout fishing has improved greatly during the past week along the Middle Fork and the Little North Fork of the Feather River in Butte county, reports the National Automobile Club. The fish are biting on both flies and bait.
