Elks Stage Flag Day Ceremony Annual Flag Day ceremony of the Anaheim Elks, conducted at the local lodge Tuesday evening, was witnessed by more than 200 members and visiting dignitaries. History of the nine flags which have flown over the United States was told and demonstrated with Ross Lee Laird in charge assisted by Anaheim Boy and Girl Scouts. Each flag, following its description, was placed in sequence in standards on the stage. Mrs. Olive Kempin, organist, presented descriptive music throughout the colorful program. Roland Bach, manager of the Long Beach Red Cross chapter, was speaker of the evening. He discussed "Secret Weapons." A ritual of flowers in which the red, white and blue of the flag and the stars thereon, was presented by the Anaheim lodge officers led by Exalted Ruler Leavitt Ford. Approximately 15 presiding officers of county patriotic organizations were introduced and escorted to the platform. The advance and retreat of the colors was presented by Anaheim Post No. 72 of the American Legion color guard. Following the program light refreshments were served. (WNS)—A new Premium List Booklets For 1949 County Fair To Be Available Soon Premium list booklets for the 1949 Orange County Fair, showing scheduled exhibit departments, rules, regulations and premiums to be awarded in all sections, will soon be off the press and available for distribution to exhibitors. Dates for the 1949 Orange County Fair, which this year has been moved to the permanent site of the former Santa Ana Army Air Base, have been set for August 18-21, inclusive. The event is being sponsored by the State of California's 32nd District Agricultural Association. $35,615.25 in Awards A total of $35,615.25 in premium awards in a wide variety of classifications is being offered exhibitors for the 1949 event, according to Roy Edwards of Orange, vice-president of the fair board and committee chairman for the Premium List booklet and the junior exhibit department. Exhibit departments in the senior classifications will include the four-day horse show division, light horses, community feature exhibits, agriculture, horticulture, floriculture, lumber and lumber products, poultry and rabbits. The home economics section, devoted to canned goods, baked goods and confections, as well as textiles, clothing and other items, will be open only to exhibitors who are residents of Orange county. Junior exhibit classifications will in- Warn of Illegal Fireworks Sale Sacramento, (WNS)—A new type of bootlegger is operating in California, Joe R. Yockers, state fire marshall declared today. This is the bootlegger of illegal fireworks, who sell materials classified as "dangerous" fireworks, which are prohibited by state law. These include firecrackers of any size, sky rockets, roman candles, chasers, snakes, and similar types of fireworks including torpedoes having more than 25/100ths of a grain of explosive compound. Yockers warned merchants that they should be certain fireworks offered for sale are the "safe and sane" variety, and pointed out that California law requires a permit from the local governing body to sell legal fireworks. Because of the dry season, he said the hazard in forest and watershed area is serious this year. J. Thornton Passes on Sunday William J. Thornton, born in Indiana 63 years ago, passed away at his home in Olive on Sunday, June 12. He had been a resident of that city for two years. The deceased was a member of the Knights of Columbus and Holy Family church in Orange. Surviving are his wife, Josephine Thornton of the home. Rosary was read Wednesday evening at 8 o'clock from the chapel of Backs, Campbell and Kaulbars mortuary with Mass this (Thursday) morning at the Holy Family church.
