Social and Club Activities GRACE THOMPSON MINDER—Phone 2206 Newport Beach Girl, Placentia Man, Nuptials Read Nuptials for Miss Catherine Marie Wagner, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas Wagner of Newport Beach, and Alvin Victor Lypps, son of Mr. and Mrs. Victor Lypps of Placentia, were read last week in St. Mary's Catholic church, Fullerton. The double ring ceremony was read by the Rev. Father J. I. Lehar. The bride, given in marriage by her father, was gowned in ivory satin and carried a bouquet of white stephanotis and orchids. Maid of honor was the bride's sister, Miss Leona Wagner, wearing peach taffeta and carrying a shower bouquet of talisman roses. Her other attendants, including Miss Louise Wagner, a sister; Miss Anita Bradasick of Los Angeles, and Miss Lou Ann Lypps, sister of the bridegroom, chose gowns of fantasy blue taffeta. They carried heart's desire roses. Serving as best man was Norbert Lypps. Ushers included Jack Lypps, Dave Lypps and Richard Wagner. Immediately following the ceremony the reception was held in the parish hall which had been decorated with baskets of gladioli and For the ceremony and reception, the bride's mother, Mrs. Wagner, wore a blue ensemble while Mrs. Lypps, mother of the bridegroom, was attired in brown. Both had orchid corsages. The new Mrs. Lypps attended Immaculate Heart college and St. Joseph School of Nursing. Her husband is a graduate of California Polytechnic college at San Luis Obispo. Mrs. Newkirk Pupils Recital Last Evening Applauded by numerous parents, relatives and friends, pupils of Florence Newkirk, Anaheim instructor, appeared in a piano recital last evening (Wednesday) at the local Ebell club. Opening the program on a lively note, Carol Booth played a vivacious folk dance arranged by Diller and Quaile. Other dance tunes included the "Minuet in C" by Mozart played by Rita Flynn; "Dancing Daisy Fields" by Mokrejs, interpreted by Mary Catherine Cain, and Clementi's "Vivace" presented by Carolyn Kibbe. Bloch's "Melody" was played by Phyllis Rawlins. Sally Olding presented Schumann's "About Strange Lands and People" and Heller's "Courious Story." An Barthelmess presented Schubert's "Scherzo in B flat." Othr young musicians featured included Carol Snyder, "Country Dance" by Beethoven; Rosemary Poyet, Chopin's "Waltz in F Minor;" Judy Mills, "Country Dance" by MacFadyn; Joan Gaines, McDonald's "To a Water Lily;" Nancy Ranney, "Three Waltzes" by Brahms; Phyllis Chamberlin, "The Mountain" by Brainard; Nancy Cann, Chopin's "Preludge in B flat;" Patsy Kroeger, Chopin's "Waltz in C Sharp Minor;" Colleen Baker, "Clair de Lune" by Debussy; Peggy Kohlenberger, Mendelssohn's "Scherzo in E Minor;" Jane Stehley, Chopin's "Waltz in G flat" and "Prelude in E flat," and Diane Cave, Grieg's "Nocturne" and "Gitanerias" by Lecuona. Hawaii Tour For Charles Hill Eighteen golden days in Hawaii were enjoyed by Charles Hill, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Hill, 609 East Broadway, Anaheim. Hill, assistant manager of shopping on the Lurline, passenger liner, arrived in Honolulu May 9, and returned here May 27. His stay enforced by the shipping strike, was a pleasure, filled with color and variety, he remarked. Due to the aquatic traffic tie-up he returned to the states via the Pan-American Strata Cruiser. Also aboard the cruiser were Mrs. Margaret Wright of the Orange County News, Anaheim, and Ed Gardner, the "Duffy" of "Duffy's Tavern," popular radio show. Making the same Lurline trip were a number of Texans and approximately 175 members of the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce on a good will tour. For traveling the bride chose a navy suit. Following a northern California honeymoon, the young couple will live at 20632 Santa Ana Canyon. Ann Allen interpreted Diabelli's "Rondo in F," while "Spanish Carnival" by Hatch was presented by Mary Flynn. Reeds of Long Beach was told relatives of the young couple during a small dinner party given in the Fluor home last week. Wedding bells will ring for the bride-elect and her husband-to-be August 2, with the nuptial Mass to be recited at St. Boniface Catholic church, this city. "Marnle and Jay" inscribed on tiny floats, served in cocktails, revealed news of the betrothal. Both Miss Fluor, and her fiance are students at the University of Southern California from which Mr. Reed, a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity, will graduate this month. The bride-elect is a graduate of Marywood Catholic girls high school of Anaheim and currently is active in UCC campus events being affiliated with the Spurs, Amazona and the Alpha Delta Pi sorority. She served as vice-president of her house and also holds the honor as a vice-president of the Pan-Hellenic association as well as membership in the L.A.S. council and the Ticketkers. With Holiday Stage Company Mary Finney, popular young character actress, was signed for the ten week summer season at Tustin by Harold Turney, Holiday Stage executive director, this week. Arrangements were made by telephone between Turney and Miss Finney, in Dallas, Texas. In gaining Miss Finney, Holiday Stage outran competition of offers for summer professional stock on the east coast and a New York production. O.F. hall, with Minnie Harvey, president, presiding. The district conclave was recently held in Riverside. Next sewing session will be held at the home of Mrs. Mary Fordyce, 735 North Lemon street. Following the business session the women joined members of the VFW post for refreshments. Aid Group Sends Goods Overseas The sending of two layette sets to Germany and of 195 bandage rolls and 11 dresses to New Guinea, was told members of the Missionary Aid Society, Grace Lutheran church, when the group met last Thursday afternoon in the home of Mrs. Al Flint, 854 North Palm street. Mrs. Al Eberhard reported on the convention held at Compton May 17. Due to the illness of the president, Mrs. Bernard Baumbach, Mrs. C. A. Benzel as vice-president, presided. Sixteen members and one guest, Mrs. Anna Schiel of Chicago, were welcomed. The scripture lesson was given by Mrs. Esther Spies who chose the 92nd Psalm. Singing of "Sweet Hour of Prayer" followed the topic of the day presented by Mrs. William Gieger who discussed "Our Southern Frontier—Puerto Rico." Translation of the New Testament of the Bible, in complete form or in part, have been made in 18 different languages and dialects, the speaker remarked. A buffet luncheon was enjoyed in the patio of the spacious new home. Rose bushes to enhance the garden were presented to winners of several games played. Mr. and Mrs. F. A.
