Plan to Wed
Miss Edith Browne, professional singer and dancer, this city, revealed her engagement to Joseph Shuman, store manager of Reinhardt's Appliance Company, East Center street, during a triple celebration dinner party at Clearwater, Wednesday of last week.
The affair was in honor of the birthday of Hewey Jones of Clearwater, brother-in-law of Mrs. Cy Jones, who was also celebrating her birthday. Mrs. Jones is the sister of Edith's mother, Mrs. Alberta Brown, 1011 East Broadway, and Mrs. Walter Reinhardt.
All those mentioned above and Walt Reinhardt were present at the party.
Wedding bells will ring for Miss Browne and Mr. Shuman in a church ceremony on September 3.
The bride-elect, a native of Arizona, has resided in Anaheim for the major part of the last 15 years. Educated in Anaheim schools, she is active in county music circles and sang two seasons with the Los Angeles Civic Grand Opera Association. She had her own program on the radio, "Edith Browne Sings" and was a featured vocalist on the "Portraits In Music," both KVOE, Santa Ana broadcasts.

Mrs. Ben Ter Beest, East Ball road, this city, enjoyed a reunion after a lapse of 37 years with a former school chum, Nola Theusen, when visiting her son, Elwood Ter Beest, and his family in Midway City, Friday.

Before an altar arranged with white stocks and gladioli flanked by palms, Miss Mary Jean Eickholt, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F. H. Eickholt, 10112 South Nutwood avenue, Anaheim, became the bride of Benjamin F. Francis, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ward Francis, Electric avenue, La Habra, in semi-formal rites solemnized in the sanctuary of St. Boniface Catholic church, Anaheim, Saturday morning at 9 o'clock.
The bride was lovely in a gown of French lace and satin fashioned with long sleeves, high neckline, fitted bodice and full gathered skirt ending in a short train. Her finger-tip viel cascaded from a tiara of satin, seed pearls and net.
Given in marriage by her father, the bride carried a bouquet of stephanotis surrounding an orchid and blended with white net.

Weber-Ward Nuptials Read
Gowned in white organdy Mae Vorletta Mae Weber, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George W. Weber 925 North Zeyn street, Anaheim became the bride of Russel Robb Ward, 11402 West Broadway, of Mrs. Jane R. Ward, 317 West Broadway, Sunday afternoon at o'clock in the sanctuary of Boniface Catholic church, with Rev. Father Paul Carroll offering for semi-formal rites.
The bride was lovely in a gown fashioned with a fitted blue ice scalloped at the waistline, which cascaded her finger-length veil.
Given away by George A. Weber, the bride carried a white child corsage surrounded by white carnations.
White gladioli and white stork arranged on the altar contrast with blue delphinium.
Attendants to the bride wore Mabel Beddall and Carlyce Wileman both wearing gowns blue organdy, identical in design to that of the bride. Each carried a bouquet of white carnations.
Serving as best man was D McDermott. Bill and Jack Willeman of the bridegroom, ushered.
Accompanied by Mrs. A. Faust, church organist, Bob Hein pre-nuptial soloist sang "Ave Maria" and other selections.
Immediately following the ceremony, the reception was held at Capilla de San Antonio. Blue and white spring flowers were arranged on the bride's table. Mrs. Flo Leigh presided over the guest book.
After cutting and sharing the first piece of their three-tier wedding cake, the couple left a three-day honeymoon trip. Upon their return they will live at the bridegroom's home. 11402 W
Catalina Trip
For Graduates
Of Rural Schools
Adventure, thrills and fun were in store for graduating eighth graders of three local rural schools, Loara, Magnolia and Katella, as they traveled by steamer out of Wilmington for Santa Catalina Island, Wednesday of last week.
Accompanied by several school officials and parents, the youngsters enjoyed aquatic sight seeing aboard the popular glass-bottom boat and visited the famed bird farm.
Aspiring racing enthusiasts boarded speed boats for a fast whirl around the waters adjacent to Avalon.
Chaperons, in addition to several mothers, included F. M. Warwick, Principal W. L. Andrews and William Ross, teacher, all of Loara school; instructor Martin Morrocco of Katella, and Mrs. Mattie Maxwell of Magnolia school.
The voyagers returned to West Anaheim that evening.
Bid Mrs. Roehm
Adieu, Install Council Officers
Farewell courtesies were extended Mrs. Richard R. Roehm by members of the Anaheim Parent-Teachers council at the installation meeting of new officers this week. The president's and chairmen's reports were also given when the group met at the home of Mrs. J. Lee Rogers, former council president.
Mrs. Roehm leaves soon with her family for Bozeman, Montana. Mr. B. A. Arnold presented her with a complete luggage set from the council. Mrs. Roehm will serve as an instructor at the University of Montana.
Mrs. Rogers, hostess for the pot-luck luncheon, acted as installer at 9 o'clock.

Lynda Lee Eickholt wearing a yellow taffeta frock was the flower girl. Serving as best man was Bill Stanley of LaHabra with Bernard Eickholt of Anaheim and Bob Goodell of La Habra, the ushers.
Miss Olga Peltzer, who was nuptial soloist for the wedding of the bride's mother, presented a traditional repertoire including "On This Day, O Beautiful Mother" and "Ave Maria." She was accompanied by Mrs. A. F. Faust, church ogranist.
Immediately following the double ring ceremony, the reception was held at the beautiful Capilla de San Antonio. The floral decorations of white stock and gladioli accented the bride's table.
For the occasion Mrs. Francis, mother of the bridegroom, wore a gray suit contrasting with white accessories. The bride's mother, Mrs. Eickholt, chose a navy suit worn with white accessories. Both mothers had stephanotis and orchid corsages.
After cutting and sharing the first piece of their three-tiered wedding cake, topped with a miniature bridal couple, the newlyweds left on a one-week honeymoon trip to Yosemite. They plan to live in Anaheim.
The new Mrs. Francis is a graduate of Anaheim Union high school and attended Fullerton Junior college. Her bridegroom, a graduate of Fullerton high school and Fullerton Junior college, is associated with Pacific Lighting, this city.
Approximately 100 relatives and friends witnessed the nuptials.

Rembrandt Prize
Robert A. Munz, son of Mr. and Mrs. P. A. Munz, Route 3, 23831 Esperanza street, Anaheim, received third prize in the Rembrandt awards given during the church ceremony on September 3.
Immediately following the ceremony, the reception was held at Capilla de San Antonio. Blue and white spring flowers were arranged on the bride's table. Mrs. Flo Leigh presided over the guest book.

For the occasion Mrs. Ward mother of the bridegroom, chose a brown print dress and beige cardiocesories. The bride's mother, Mrs Weber, wore a white print dress and blue accessories and a corsal of pink carnations as did Mrs. Ward.
The bride's traveling costume included an electric-blue suede pink and white accessories and the white orchid corsage from her bridal bouquet.
Pre-nuptial courtesies honoring the new Mrs. Ward included a mini-cellaneous shower given by her attendants at the home of Carly Wollenman; a personal show given by the bridegroom's sister at the home of Mrs. Jane Ward; and a bridal party given at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George Weber.

Currently she is a dental assistant in the office of Dr Fred Rusch, a position she will retain for the present. Her bridegroom is employed at Bevins Portia service. Meeting Held
Mrs. Edith Edmiston, former resident of Anaheim, welcomed members of Chapter BP of P.E.O. Sisterhood at the chapter house in Alhambra Wednesday of last week.
The group enjoyed an informal picnic luncheon with Mrs. Home Ames of Anaheim and Dr. Harriet Bigham acting as co-hostesses for the occasion.
This event marked the final session for the year.

Loard, auditor, and Mrs. C. W. Gray, parliamentarian.
Plans were discussed for the fourth district meeting in Anaheim city park in September. Special guest was Mrs. Edward Mulligan, fourth district P.T.A. president who attended in addition to members of the elementary school guards and teachers.
An early type of American matches cost four cents each.
Wins College Rembrandt Prize
Robert A. Munz, son of Mr. and Mrs. P. A. Munz, Route 3, 23831 Esperanza street, Anaheim, received third prize in the Rembrandt awards given during the current student are exhibit at Pomona college.
His work, "On the Canal," won him a subscription to a well-known magazine, college officials stated.
The exhibit which opened May 23, closed May 29 in the college gallery. More than 200 paintings, all created by enrolled Pomona students, were displayed in the competition. Awards were based particularly on progress and development throughout the year.
Munz is a sophomore student at Pomona, majoring in English. Graduated from Webb school in Claremont in 1945, he served for a short period with the Marine Corps reserves.
Roy Samuel Henderson, Route 1, Placentia, and Eloise Marie Diaz of Chico obtained a marriage license at the county court house in Santa Ana late last week.

Toastmistress' Election Set
Election of Anaheim Toastmistress officers will be next Thursday evening, June 9, at 7:30 o'clock at the Anaheim Union high school's Little Theatre, it was disclosed following nominations presented by Mrs. Emma Pellew, last week at the regular bi-monthly session.
Eva Gooden, president, was in charge of the business meeting.
The following names were presented by Mrs. Pellew as follows:
Florence Spencer, president; Vera Gilbert, secretary, and Pearl Watters, treasurer.
The invocation was given by Vera Gilbert. A resume of a recent dinner meeting of Toastmistress club representatives was presented by Florence Spencer.
Margaret Freeman, toastmistress of the evening, introduced the speakers. "Words" was the topic of an educational ten-minute talk by Rose Calawat. Sarah Wheatley's subject was "Think!" Several highlights on "The Psychology of Race Prejudice" were given by Vera Gilbert.
Mary Thompson, high school instructor, and evaluator, gave a lesson on parliamentary procedure, including types of motions and drills in voice and diction.
Guests attending the session in the Little Theatre were Kathleen Sager and Mildred Hess.

Honoring Edward Johnson on his eighty-ninth birthday, the Brotherhood of the Grace Lutheran church, staged a surprise party Friday evening at the home of Johnson's daughter, Mrs. Gus Spies; 829 South Claudina street.
The Anaheim man's anniversary was Saturday, May 28. Also receiving signatures of brotherhood members was William Keefer, who marked another mile-stone on May 12.
Conversation and food highlighted the affair with refreshments of ice cream, home made cake and coffee served. Martha Washington geraniums, roses and other spring flowers were arranged throughout the rooms.

Family Reunion
The S. F. Hilgenfeld home, 120 East Broadway, was scene of a family reunion over the three-day Memorial holiday.
Guests during the period were Mrs. William O. Rose (nee Dr. Frances K. Hilgenfeld) and son, Willian Henry, and daughter, Katharine Ann, of Sacramento; Mr. and Mrs. Robert S. Farrar and children, Stanley Frank, Jo-Anne Evelyn and James Samuel of Santa Ana; Mr. and Mrs. Melvin D. Hilgenfeld and children, Margie Ann and Ruth, of Anaheim, and Mr. and Mrs. Harvey C. Nunn and children, Roger David and Kenneth George, Los Angeles.
All the family members were together Sunday afternoon. Nearly all enjoyed luncheon in the family home Memorial Day. Frances came down from Sacramento Saturday morning and returned Monday evening.
A camping and fishing trip on Kern River, near Bakersfield, was enjoyed over the Memorial Day weekend by Mr. and Mrs. Walt Reinhardt. Miss Edith Browne and Joe Shuman, all of Anaheim.
The quartet was joined at the river camp by Mr. and Mrs. Earl Wilson of Westminster.
