Dominican Sisters Bazaar Is Success
In observance of sixty years of the operation of St. Catherine's Military school on North Lemon street in this city, the Dominican Sisters held a bazaar last Sunday as means of raising funds toward their building project in which they expect to rebuild the nuns' convent that was destroyed in the earthquake of 1933.
From the hour the bazaar opened at noon until it closed at 7:30 that evening, a capacity crowd enjoyed the fine dinner served during the day and the many other attractions in the grounds. Parents of cadets at the school and parishoners of St. Boniface operated booths on the grounds. Numerous prizes were awarded later in the day.
Dominican sisters make up the faculty of both St. Catherine's and the St. Boniface parochial streamers radiating for the poles to corners of the room.
The stage was arranged as a patio with a lattice fence entwined with ivy, pink and red roses forming an effective background: A picket fence was in the foreground. Garden furniture accented the stage as did Martha Washington geraniums. Brass hanging baskets filled with ivy were on the walls of the great hall.
On top of the piano were two large bouquets, one of red and pink roses and the other of watsonia and snapdragons. Tall, green tapers flanked a miniature May pole on each table. Six Colonial dolls seemed to dance, each holding one of the pole's six streamers. Baskets of sweet peas in pastel shades and baby breath were on each end of the tables.
A delectable dinner featuring creamed chicken on bisquits was enjoyed.
Serving on the dinner committee were Mr. and Mrs. Frank Mauerhan Mr. and Mrs. H. Dickman, and Mr. and Mrs. A. Thueson. In charge of tickets were Mrs. Fred Lee, Mrs. H. Dickman and Mrs. Frank Mauerhan.
Decoration committee members were Doris and Marion Rassmussen, Mrs. Anna Engebretson, Mrs. Catherine Saiben, Mrs. Ruth Eberhard and Mrs. Edna Barron.
The table service committee were Mrs. Ann Heinze, Mrs. Edith Flint, Mrs. E. Hempken, Mrs. Eva Ter Beest, Mrs. S. Mohn and Mrs. Esther Spies.

Mother-Daughter Church Banquet Big Success
Eighty-seven persons attended the recent mother-daughter banquet, annual affair of the Grace Lutheran church, held this year in the church's social hall under the general chairmanship of Mrs. Frank Mauerhan.
Guest speaker was Mrs. Morris Sands who discussed "Columbia, South America." She described the mothers and daughters of South America, telling of their customs, family life and the influence of the church.
Toastmistress for the program was Frieda Schubert. The Rev. Otto Fischer, acting pastor of the church, gave the prayer.
A singspiration was enjoyed by the mothers and daughters present with Marilyn Schimming providing the accompaniment.
"A Little Parable to Mother" was the dramatic reading presented by Joan Stovall. Marilyn Schimming interpreted a piano solo, "On The Holy Mount."
Greeting those present in place of Mrs. Bernard Baumbach, president of the Woman's Missionary Aid Society, who was confined in the Fullerton Cottage hospital, was Mrs. C. Benzil, vice-president of the church group.
A sum of $52.50, proceeds from the banquet, will go to swell the India Women's Work fund. The group sang a song entitled "Dear God Bless India" and a "Mother's Day Hymn."
Two May poles carried out the May Day Theme with the gay and Mr. and Mrs. A. Thueson. In charge of tickets were Mrs. Fred Lee, Mrs. H. Dickman and Mrs. Frank Mauerhan.
