Describe Angling Here as 'Million Dollar Industry' Sacramento (WNS)—While sales of fishing licenses were lower during the first quarter of this year than for the similar period in 1948, angling is still a million dollar industry as far as the state is concerned. The Division of Fish and Game reported that angling licenses had netted $301,036 during the first quarter, in comparison to $326,862 for the first quarter in 1948. Poor fishing conditions were ascribed as the reason for the decrease but sales for 1949 are expected to pass the $2,933,286 collected in 1948, by the time the year is completed. The angling license business is a large industry and the state has 2,888 distributing agencies. These include 286 in the Fresno area, 1062 in the Los Angeles district, 207 in the Redding area, 590 in the vicinity of Sacramento, and 743 in San Francisco. Hunting licenses, issued from July 1 to June 30 of each year, have netted the state $1,445,959 so far during the current year. The division estimated sales would reach $1,700,000, and it is believed late returns will swell the present total to that expected by the division.
