Blonde Belles To Milk at Bellflower Bellflower, California, is nationally famous for two things—beautiful blondes and good milk. The two will be combined to provide one of the stellar attractions of the Los Angeles county spring fair to be held at the Bellflower fairgrounds from May 26-30, when some of the most beautiful blonde girls in the area will engage in a spectacular milking contest to determine the Dutch Dairymaid champion, according to Carroll Weberg, president of the fair association. Much interest and speculation on the outcome of this contest has already been raised, as most of these attractive young ladies of Holland Dutch descent have been accustomed to three-legged stools and milkpails since they were able to walk. Those entering the event will be required to wear regulation Dutch costume, stated Weberg, this to include the picturesque Dutch caps, dresses and wooden shoes. Many other attractions have been scheduled for the popular five-day Los Angeles County Spring Fair, which it is anticipated will bring the crowds flocking to the grounds on Clark avenue, just south of Imperial highway, as it has in previous years. Always an outstanding event of the spring fair is the wild west rodeo, with over 100 of the country’s top-flight western riders, rope twirlers, bulldoggers, and bronc busters. Livestock and commercial exhibits scheduled for this year’s spring fair, exceed any previously booked, said Weberg, attesting further to the popularity of the dates selected for the fair, which will continue over Memorial Day, just as schools are letting out. In keeping with the nation-wide movement to offer the best in entertainment at a reasonable price, the gate admission this year will be only 50c for adults. Children will be admitted at the gate for only a dime, tax included. As is customary, the parade for the fair will be held Saturday morning, May 28 and will move through the principal streets of Bellflower to the fair grounds. Red Ryder will be the grand marshal. Among the various units to be entered in the parade will be the glittering array of the many southland mounted posses and riding clubs accompanied by a wide variety of bands and outstanding floats. The merchants’ display section at the fair will house merchandise exhibits, with a special section being provided for heavy equipment, such as trucks, trailers, farm equipment and automobiles. In this exhibit space booth rental fees will average $25 for 10x10 feet. The Navy has found that loud, long words are best on radio-phone communication. The assembly has passed legislation that would prohibit placing the screen where it is visible to the car operator. The measure is sponsored by San Diego Assemblyman Frank Luckel.
