So they shall know good music of all nations
Casey Jones, Paul Bunyan, Pecos Bill, Johnny Apple-seed ... all the legendary heroes of America are this year coming to life for children in 2,663 schools through the music of the Standard School Broadcast.
Each week, this program plays and explains good music for an estimated 400,000 classroom listeners. Title of the current course is "American Music and Folklore"... but over the years, music of all nations has been studied and enjoyed. This is the twenty-first year of Standard School Broadcasts. It is our sincere hope that we have helped children in the West know and appreciate the music of the world and understand better its people.

In fresh water fishing, bass are beginnig to hit at Lake Mead and Lake Havesu.
Surf fishing is good especially at Doheny State Park and San Onofre, anglers said.
With the opening of the trout fishing season May 1 in California, data has been requested by enthusiastic anglers, stated Williams. He stated nearby waters stocked with various types of trout include Bear Creek, the lower portion of Deep Creek and the San Gabriel river. Big Bear and Arrowhead lakes should be good, he added, because of the hundreds of game fish planted late last season by the state Fish and Game Commission.

Trackmen Set New Records at Santa Barbara
Two school records and one meet record was set by the Colonists in the annual Santa Barbara relays held last Saturday on the host city's field.
Gerald Thatcher took a first place in the Bee shot-put to establish a new school record of 50 feet 3 inches which broke the mark of 46 feet, 11¼ in. set by Jerry Shipkey in 1940. Curtis Meads cracked the Bee meet record for the 120 low hurdles and also cracked the school record with a time of 13.8.
The Cee 440 relay team chalked up a tie for second place and also set a school record with a time of 47 flat nipping the old mark of 47.2. The members of this relay team are Jim Ball, Augie Huesca, Ira Weber and Don Steffen.
Here's One That Didn't Get Away
