A quilt donated to the church circle was won by Mrs. Bud Saiben following competition Tuesday evening. She also won the heart's desire box.
Tuesday's regular meeting included the singing of "What a Friend We Have in Jesus," Bible study led by Mrs. Frederick Siegel and a "Quiet Hour" devotion.
Local 'Y' Young People Meet
Two YWCA sponsored young people's groups met for varied programs this week it was disclosed by Tommy Thomason, Anaheim "Y" director, today.
The 49ers Hi-Y club, under the leadership of Bob Quast, met Tuesday night at his home and heard Paul Sanford, jeweler, discuss "Rock Hounding." He made the business of collecting glamorous rocks by giving descriptions of many different types of unusual rock formations which are not discernable to the average eye. Hi-Y spokesmen said. Twenty-five members were present.
The four Y-Teen clubs with their leaders, Betty Delaney, Betty Launer, Betty Leigh, Teddy Lou Payne and Gerre Homan, met Tuesday night at the White Temple Methodist church to elect Council officers for the coming year. Those named include Jackie Whiteman, president; Mildred Harling, vice-president; Jeannine Sanders, secretary, and Hollie Fitz, treasurer.
Fullerton JC Annual on Press
Year book of Fullerton Junior college, the Annual Torch, went to press this week, edited by a student staff headed by Oman Ritch and Mrs. Mary Russell, both of La Habra, which produced 200 pages of picture essay including more than 700 photographs of life on the jaysee campus.
According to Mrs. Russell, editor, the annual of 1949 varies from the traditional in that it stresses the activities of the students in

Star of 'Oklahoma' and 'Carousel'

appeared in his outstanding role of "Curly" in "Oklahoma." Following a year's success in "Oklahoma" at Chicago, the Theatre Guild, presented Mr. Riatt in the well-loved "Carousel" on Broadway. His outstanding acting and singing brought about his winning the Academy Award and also the Donaldson's Drama Critics Award for the season of 1945, 1946.
At present he is under long term contract with Decca Records. His latest album is "Songs of the Open Road." Decca A470.

Val Moore Will Visit Honolulu
Mrs. Val Moore, Anaheim dancing instructor, is leaving for Honolulu by United Airlines next Tuesday, where she will do extensive study work on Polynesian and Hawaiian dancing.
The local teacher plans to spend three weeks in the islands climaxing her visit by attending the big annual May Day festival there. During her absence here, Mrs.odd Pool, mother of Dolores Pool, talented young dancer, will be in charge of the dancing programs presented regularly by Val Moore students.
Couple Wed In Las Vegas
Of interest to her many friends is this vicinity is the marriage of Mrs. E. Y. Shipley of Los Angeles, daughter of A. S. Moore, Route Yorba Linda, to James Judia, Los Angeles, last Saturday night 9 o'clock in Las Vegas.
Quiet simplicity marked the informal ceremony which was attended by only a few very close friends of the couple.
The newlywed left for San Francisco following the nupials there they will make their home.
Judia, an executive of the Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Company, was recently transferred to the bay city office from Los Angeles.
His bride, Yvonne, lived in Yorba Linda at the family home between 1929 and 1934, and has been a frequent visitor since that time.
Concert Series Drive Underway
Fullerton's 1949 community concert series membership drive week got well under way at a kick-off dinner held Monday night in the Fullerton Masonic Temple, Mrs. J.J. Alexander, association president, presiding.
Season tickets, which may be obtained during this week from board members or at the California Hotel, Fullerton, will be honored, providing there are enough seats in other towns featuring Columbia artist concert programs.
Board members from Anaheim include Dr. H. A. Tews and Mrs. Margaret Buttree. Workers on the committee from Anaheim include Mrs. Buttree, Mrs. John Kemper, Mrs. Olive Kempin, Mrs. Dick Gay, Mrs. John Wilcox, Mrs. E.G.Beddall, Mrs. Leonard Jones and Mrs. Siemeon Toelle.
Last year more than 300 members from Anaheim enjoyed season concerts.
Well known artists with repertoires designed for wide appeal again will be presented through the Columbia Concert Association, New York, in concert at Fullerton, Mrs. Toelle said.
Sorority Plans Programs, Names New Officers
Coming events were discussed and officers elected by Beta Sigma Phi Sorority members Monday evening at the home of Marjorie Pibel, president.
A formal dinner will be held for all Orange county sorority members May 2, at Friedman's hall in Orange to be given in honor of Founder's Day and the new pledges from the county who will receive the Ritual of Jewels degree.
This meeting will be conducted by the Tri-City council president, Beulah Hineman of Anaheim. The entire Anaheim group is planning to attend the event.
May 15, the Southern California Council breakfast honoring the mothers of members will be held at Ciro's on Sunset boulevard.

Helen Sharpe, program chairman, introduced Mrs. H. M. Peterson as speaker of the evening. She discussed the topic, "Happiness," which may be found, according to her presentation, in beautiful gardens and paintings, in the Bible, in literature and in friendship. These principles, said the speaker, combine to form some of the basic ideals of friendship and happiness upon which the sorority is built.
Refreshments of home-made cherry pie, nuts, mints and coffee were served by the hostess.
Members present included Mrs. H. M. Peterson, Helen Sharpe, Lois Spratt, Helen Cohn, Irene Holland, Anna Claire Mauerhan, Ann Engebretson, Esther David, Louise Miller, Beulah Hineman, Dorothy Gerlich, Audrey Vail and Alice Myers.
A baby son was born to Mr. and Mrs. William Talevich, 218 North Clefentine street, Anaheim, Monday at St. Joseph hospital. The newcomer tipped the scales at six pounds, 15 ounces.
An ancient remedy for fever was to wash water over the patient and onto a frog, to which the fever was supposed to pass.
