Released Time Christian Education A resume of activities accomplished during the current series of week day Christian Education through released time in Anaheim schools, in cooperation of the elementary board of education, represented by M. A. Gauer, superintendent, and the Roman Catholic and Protestant churches was released today. The classes of the Protestant churches are provided by the Association of Christian churches working through its committee of Christian Education with the Rev. Rollo E. Dunham, chairman. This committee, representative of many churches of this community, has given considerable time to the planning and supervision of the program. Three sub-committees are in charge of program details. The Rev. Al Casebeer is chairman of the committee on curriculum, schedule and personnel. Cliff Ellett is acting as chairman of the committee on housing, transportation and escorts. Dr. Kenneth Hueler is chairman of the committee on finance and publicity. Released time classes are available for fourth, fifth and sixth graders in the following schools: Lincoln, Horace Mann, Broadway, George Washington, Benjamin Franklin and Fremont Junior high school. Classes for seventh and eighth graders are provided for Premont students. "The Bible in Our Lives" is the subject of the study units for this school year. The teachers, Mrs. Marguerite Harrison and Mrs. Eleanor Gilbreth, have been commended by church pastors for their work. Record Enrollment Enrollment in the classes provided by the Association of Christian Churches totaled 304 with attendance at the classes varying from 276 to 310, at the peak. Attendance last week was 286. Though the finances for carrying on this released time program are provided by six of the churches of the association, some 23 churches were represented by children attending the classes. Volunteers for Cancer Drive in County Needed The need for more volunteers to assist in the 1949 educational With all our increased knowledge in world and national affairs, and technical skills, we were unable to prevent war because we have neglected the fundamentals of all worthwhile education—religious teachings, which should begin in the home and be supplemented in the churches. Amicable relations can be maintained only by living the Christian principles. Why not accept the invitation and COME TO CHURCH NEXT SUNDAY? —Rev. D. Carl Yoder. ... DO YOU KNOW ... 1. And the entire success of this campaign, from both the educational and fundraising standpoint, depends on the number of additional volunteers we can secure right now.” Mr. Taylor said, “at least 50 volunteers will be needed to carry on a thorough solicitation. We do not yet have that many people.” He also stated that those who wish to volunteers for the campaign should telephone KImberly 2-6789. WHITE TEMPLE METHODIST Another group of surplus buildings at Camp San Luis Obispo will be offered on Saturday, April 23, to veterans in need of housing. H. H. Jaqueth Chief of the Local Allocation Division of the State Department of Finance, announced today that 128 miscellaneous buildings will go on sale on that date at prices ranging from $25 to $2,100, plus state sales tax. Veterans who want to buy these structures must have an approved application form which their county service officers can supply upon showing of an armed forces discharge certificate or photostatic copy. The buildings vary in size from small sheds to large hospital wards 32 feet by 150. All are in good condition. Jaqueth said. The larger buildings have good rustic exterior and excellent framing lumber, suitable for use in home construction. Some of the units include storage tanks with capacities ranging up to 5,170 gallons. Veterans living in rural areas will find these particularly useful. Interested veterans were urged to come early, since the one previous sale at Camp San Luis Obispo, at which 2,748 buildings were offered to veterans and farmers, ended in a complete sell-out in two days, and many veterans were disappointed. The sale on Saturday the 23rd will open at 8 a.m., and will continue on a daily basis, Sundays included, until all buildings in the group are sold. Rules governing surplus housing sales under the state program inaugurated in 1947 specify that all sales are for cash and on an "as is," where is" basis, without warranty. Veterans must make their own arrangements for dismantling and removal, to be completed within 30 days. Further information can be obtained from county service officers. Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus." Mary Baker Eddy writes in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures"; "Every day makes its demands upon us for higher proofs rather than professions of Christian power." "When we learn that error is not real, we shall be ready for progress, 'forgetting those things which are behind'." All representatives working in conjunction with this series will be properly identified. These photographers will call at citizen's homes in the near future to take a series of photographs to be included in this feature. This series will be entitled "Our Growing Generation."
