Old Insectary Sold to Citrus Growers Tuesday Citrus Growers, Inc., today had purchased the county's old insectary in Anaheim for $15,000. The agricultural group thus bought back from the county the property it gave away about 20 years ago, and leaders said they were sure they had paid "a lot more than it was worth." The opening bid by Citrus Growers, Inc., was the only one submitted to the board of supervisors Tuesday afternoon. Stanley Goode, appraiser, valued the 2.74 acres and 28 buildings at $750 less than the amount bid. Agricultural men of the county purchased the property years ago and equipped it to raise beneficial insects to combat insect pests. They turned it over to the county which developed the program. In recent years only a portion of it has been used as an insectary and some buildings have been used by Citrus Growers to house transient citrus workers. Last week, the county purchased for $60,000 a modern laboratory and 12-acre grove from Union Oil Company and the county agricultural department will operate from the new location on Harbor boulevard just south of Anaheim. Deed was accepted for the property Tuesday. Secretary George Graham of Citrus Growers said his organization plans extensive improvements on the grounds and buildings in order to furnish adequate housing for workers who may be sent here for the citrus harvest this summer.
