State Board to Conduct Survey In Orange County
Business and industrial firms of Orange county shortly will be visited by technicians of the State Personnel Board now engaged on a job classification and salary survey for Orange county government, which involves a comparison between wages and salaries paid at the court house and the prevailing wage scale of private industry.
What private industry is paying its employees in this county, as ascertained in the sampling to be conducted by the state personnel technicians, will be used as the basis of the salary structure to be recommended for counterpart jobs in county government service, it is announced.
R. L. Nicholson, Jr., will conduct the private survey, assisted by Miss Guyla Runyan and, part-time, by Robert Carrasco, all of the state staff, under general direction of Ralph Wesson, who has charge of the Orange county survey.
The technicians emphasize that the salary data from individual firms will be kept completely confidential. Firms participating in the survey will receive, if they wish, a summary of the completed prevailing wage survey, in which individual firms will not be identified.
4-H Clubs Use Wire Poultry Cages
"The adaptation of individual wire cage layer units to backyard 4-H club projects is a practical business venture," stated H. W. Longfellow, assistant farm advisor in Orange county, while conducting a tour of outstanding 4-H club poultry projects in Orange county.
It is estimated that there are over a million such individual units in use commercially in southern California at the present time. One of their good points is that they can be made up in small units of eight or combinations of eight. This permits the expansion of the project without altering the original unit. Individual cages require a minimum of space for the number of birds involved. They can be constructed at a low cost at home or they can be obtained commercially built.
Bill Lewis, 4-H club member from Buena Park has recently changed his poultry housing to the individual wire cage layer units.
Firms in various sections of the county will be asked to cooperate in the survey.

Salary Increase For Legislators In Second Step
California's legislators today took the second step in securing an annual salary increase. The assembly approved a constitutional amendment to be presented to the people at the next general election authorizing a $250 monthly salary for both state senators and assemblymen.
The measure was proposed by San Diego assemblyman Howard Cramer. Under provisions of the bill legislators will receive $150 more than their present salary.
Prior attempts to raise legislative salaries were voted down by the November balloting.
Campbell Rites This Friday
Funeral services for Mrs. Minnie G. Campbell, 84, 12801 Ball road, Anaheim, who died Monday evening at a Los Angeles hospital will be conducted from Hilgenfeld chapel Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock.
A native of Iowa, Mrs. Campbell had resided in California for 29 years, the past ten of which she had spent in Anaheim. She was a member of the A. B. Paul Women's Relief Corps of this city.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Leona Hull of the same Anaheim address; one brother, William H. Babcock of Inglewood, and one granddaughter, Mrs. Bonnie Croxen of Anaheim.
Interment will be in El Monte cemetery.
The technicians emphasize that the salary data from individual firms will be kept completely confidential. Firms participating in the survey will receive, if they wish, a summary of the completed prevailing wage survey, in which individual firms will not be identified.

Stoles, Berthas,
Prints for Spring,
Summer Wardrobe
What about stoles for summer dresses? Is back fullness good for cottons? What are the smartest prints for spring? These are some of the questions you ask.
With bare sun dresses you need something for covering up. That means either a bolero or a stole. The beauty of a stole is, it's so easy to make. One very nice one is kerchief shaped at the back, and you can wear it various ways.
Back fulness is still a good style for summer dresses. There are four skirt silhouettes, all of equal importance for you to choose from. The slim type, the one with back fulness, the all-around flare, and the pleated. The flared skirt is the darling of the young crowd—their cotton dresses especially are apt to flare widely, and most evening gowns flare voluminously.
How low may a plunging neckline plunge? In actual truth, it goes only about to the top of the bra. However, if you want yours really deep, it is quite a good stunt to make your bra (or the top of your slip) match the dress in color and fabric. It then becomes part of the design. Bare wide-open necklines are everywhere. Some are charmingly surrounded by something quite new in berthas.
Dots, stripes, checks, small ties-silk prints and paisleys come first in a list of the smartest prints.

Goes only about to the top of the bra. However, if you want yours really deep, it is quite a good stunt to make your bra (or the top of your slip) match the dress in color and fabric. It then becomes part of the design. Bare wide-open necklines are everywhere. Some are charmingly surrounded by something quite new in berthas.
Dots, stripes, checks, small tie-silk prints and paisleys come first in a list of the smartest prints. After these anything you like. The all-bias striped dress is high style and so is the cross-stripe one.
Cotton voile is to be worn again and it looks too chiffon-like for words. All sheers are ready for a big summer—chiffon, semi-sheers, volles, dotted swiss, organdy, organza, and peek-a-boo eyelet. Sweet, innocent dotted swiss dresses with huge taffeta sashes, are all set to go.
One spring dress model has everything: It's bias, has the widest of summerbunds. The neckline plunges, and the skirt flares. Bare necklines are the rage but few are as beautiful as the framed-by-a-bertha type on a waffle pique dress. The bare V is another of the new open necklines, cut both wide and deep.
Dots are a top-flight print, all shapes, all sizes. One dress has the snow-flake type. It has also the new summerbund sash, ending in a great big bow. All the blues are furniously smart for spring and summer. Any navy is perfect for a day-timer with a plunging neckline, and dignified three-quarter sleeves.
RICE STUFFED PEPPERS
6 green peppers
1 pound cooked, smoked ham, ground
1 cup uncooked rice
