HIGH SCHOOL HI-LIGHTS By the Journalism Class of Anaheim Union High School Edited by BARBARA CARROLL NAME RALPH JUNG SENIOR CLASS GRADUATION SPEAKER Senoirs of the class of '49 of Anaheim high elected Ralph Jung as their graduation class speaker last March 21 in a poll conducted throughout the senior problems classes. Jung is vice-president of the Lambda Sigma and is secretary of the Colonist Knights. He plays clarinet in the band. He also works at the school store, Wimpy's. Ralph won over the other speaking nominees. They were Delores Sehr, Jack Johannes, Dich Hoffman, Terry Kilduff and Cornell Gray. Seniors also voted on the question of wearing caps and gowns at Baccalaureate instead of their graduation clothes. Caps and gowns won. During past years, seniors have worn caps and gowns only at the graduation exercises, not at Baccalaureate. Caps and gowns are being rented from a Los Angeles firm, thus saving students the cost of buying them. Special arrangements are being made so that seniors may retain the golden tassel from the caps as a memento of their graduation. ‘Anoranco’ Takes To the Air Enter Annual Newspaper Day On SC Campus The Anoranco was rated with a score of six out of a possible ten points in competition for the coveted Crombie-Allen award at the 24th annual newspaper day held last Saturday, March 26 on the campus of the University of Southern California. The students of the beginning journalism class will alternate the daily broadcasts, each day being assigned to two different students. Mr. Vetterli, their instructor, will supervise all programs that go over the "airways." Last week was the first week for the new schedule. Students who broadcasted during the past week were as follows: Monday—Bill Burr and Herschel Coulter; Tuesday—Ramona Snyder and Bob Sallee; Wednesday—Fred Robinson and Lloyd Dick; Thursday—Sonny Ard and Carl King. Those who will broadcast tomorrow's program are Darleen Morris and Arlene Anderson. Until the normal schedule can be resumed, these students will endeavor to broadcast daily news events around the campus and other items of general interest to school students. That normal publishing schedule is expected to resume about April 22.
