Bradford Trenham, general manager of the taxpayers' organization. Program for the taxpayers' annual meeting includes discussion of local, state, and federal government problems, with outstanding authorities in their fields scheduled to speak. James S. Dean, California state director of finance, is to discuss "California — A Billion Dollar State." "Citizen Action in Local Government" is to be the subject of Milo Rowell, Jr., of Fresno, attorney and long-time civic leader. "A Californian Looks at Uncle Sam" is the topic of Ronald M. Ketcham, Washington representative of the Los Angeles chamber of Commerce. A. C. Hardison, of Santa Paula, prominent agriculturist and long-time president of the Taxpayers' association, is to open the meeting. Pointing to the urgency of the taxpayers' problems which are to be discussed at the meeting, Trenham said: "With taxes taking more than $5 billion a year out of Californians—an average of about $500 per capita—the time has come to take an intensive look at our governments, evaluate them, and figure out where economies can be made. SOCIAL AND CLUB ACTIVITIES OF THE WEEK (Continued from Page 3) Brownie Scouts Feature First Sweetheart Supper Monday Eve Fathers were guests of honor last Valentine's evening when the fourth grade Brownies held their first Sweetheart Supper. A group of 225, representing eleven Brownie troops were in attendance. The Fremont cafeteria was gay with hearts and flowers and even ribbon-bedecked cubes of sugar, heart-shaped cakes, heart-shaped candles and heart-shaped salads and desserts were all part of the table decorations. A Brownie planning committee worked in advance to prepare table favors and heart-shaped name tags for each guest. Members of the planning committee were Joann Plegel of Zion Lutheran Troop 22, Allene Schafer and Lucy Ann Fischle of Benjamin Franklin Troop 37, Judith Ann Lemcke and Marcie Louise Vincent of Horace Mann Troop 39, Patsy Briggs and Linda Cheatum, of Ben Franklin Troop 38, Diana Hollowell and Barbara Sims of Lincoln Troop 44. They were assisted in their planning by Mrs. W. L. Hollowell, Mrs. Ray Cheatum, Mrs. Carl Lemcke and Mrs. Roy Dargatz. Barbara Roberson and Helen Shrabel of Lincoln Troop 44 were in charge of the hostess responsibilities for the entire group and greeted all of the guests as they arrived. After dinner there was a roll-call of troops with the following troops represented: Troop 11 of Cypress; Troop 27 of George Washington; Troop 22 of Zion Lutheran; Troop 43 of Loara; Troop 19 of Broadway; Troops 37 and 38 of Benjamin Franklin; Troop 39 of Horace Mann; Troop 47 of St. Boniface; Troop 44 of Lincoln. There was group singing and a musical game, accordion solos, dances, poems, piano music and a play by the Brownies, with local drug store owner, a shark at cards; "Red" Hamilton, the dapper piano thumper with his rag time melody; Paula Doretti, one of the dance hall girls who recited a "pome"; Patty Evans, Jackson's star attraction, singing waitress in the saloon; Pat Sullivan, who sang for her supper in sultry toned blues manner while the chorus line was composed of beauties from the Center Street Dance Hall. Ever present to cast gloom over the guests at Jackson's Last Chance, was the character, "Big Freeze," who always broke up the card game in progress at the gaming table. The skit was well presented and thoroughly enjoyed by the guests. Will Preview Spring Styles Spring fashions to please the feminine connoisseur will be previewed in a dazzling array of exciting new fabrics and latest style trends under the auspices of the Orange county Farm Bureau Home Department tomorrow (Friday) night at 8 o'clock in the Tustin high school auditorium. The free show is open to the public, Mrs. Earl Burdick, county Home Department chairman, and Mrs. Helen Babcock, program chairman, stressed. This fabric fashion show will display clothing, tying in with National Sew and Save week. Everything from a breakfast coat for early morning wear, to dinner-time dresses and coats will be modeled. Perky to-market cotton frocks, dressier luncheon one and two-piecers, resort and sports wea and late afternoon apparel will be included. The trend for spring emphasizes "Buttons and Bows" accents. Grand finale to the preview will feature saucy little "Buttons and Bows" aprons, created by members of the county Home Department. After dinner there was a roll-call of troops with the following troops represented: Troop 11 of Cypress; Troop 27 of George Washington; Troop 22 of Zion Lutheran; Troop 43 of Loara; Troop 19 of Broadway; Troops 37 and 38 of Benjamin Franklin; Troop 39 of Horace Mann; Troop 47 of St. Boniface; Troop 44 of Lincoln. The theme song of the evening was "Let Me Call You Sweetheart." Shirley Pannier, member of Troop 1 of Fremont school, Mrs. John L. Royal Arch Masons Entertain Ladies Wednesday Eve More than 145 members of Royal Arch Masons and their ladies were present for a sumptuous fish dinner at the Masonic temple Wednesday evening. Committee in charge of all arrangements was Warren Hodges and Mrs.Hodges was in charge of the food preparation. She had as her assistants four other ladies. Following the dinner,the guests and members were taken to the large lodge room where a most entertaining program was presented.Reviving a long lost art,T.J.Goon of Corona del Mar and Santa Ana played an accompaniment to a variety of musical numbers,coversing the field from present day booie-woogie to the classicals on what he jokingly calls "Goon-Bones,"the old-time bones as used by the minstrels of days gone by.Explaining his hobby Mr.Goon told of the long hours of work he had expended in perfecting the rhythm displayed in his numbers.The "bones" were a component part of the end-man of any minstrel show,用in his act more as a comedy bit to his act and as a rhythmic addition to the songs of the minstrel singers.The talent displayed by Mr.Goon shows he is vitally interested in keeping the old art alive. The program was concluded when members of the local high school drama class presented a play (?) that took place in "ye old Jackson's Last Chance,"famous for its social significance in the early days of the wild west.Dressed in regalia of western inhabitants as read about in "Dead-Eye Dick"and other western novels,the entertainers very realistically carried out the play in true western fashion. Cast members included Cornell Gray as the dapper and handsome gentleman,Mark Stevenson chief of police of Anaheim;Terry Kilduff as Dr.Broastedthe "imahn" Grand finale to the preview will feature saucy little "Buttons and Bows"aprons created by members of the county Home Department. Highlighting the spring fashions will be the use of many new and different fabrics that have only recently appeared on the market They include iridescent fabrics appearing in cottons,gingham chambray,madras and even denim. Mrs. Clarke R. Stone stylist and commentator will point out the ease of making and styling lovely new clothing for any woman who is handy with the needle and who wants to achieve an individual look in her wardrobe. A graduate of Oregon State college,Mrs. Stone was assistant home demonstration agent for Orange county from January 1946 to July 1947.Currently she is conducting adult tailoring classes for the evening division of Santa Ana college. Party for Church Group at Schultz Furniture Store Featuring all the comforts of the ultra-modern home,the complete model kitchens and laundry facilities,television and radio salons of the Aaron Schultz Furniture Company,301 West Center street,were viewed by 35 members of the Grace Lutheran church,with Robert L.Lane,新 store associate,in charge of demonstrations,last Monday evening. The church group was the first to be guests of the store which is innovating a bi-monthly party night. Thursday of next week at 7:30 o'clock a group of women from the local telephone company is scheduled to attend a party at the Schultz store. A 16-quart pressure cooker was donated to the church by the Schultz company。Consolation prize of a table lamp was also awarded. Morrison Horticultural Center, Brookside Park, Pasadena. Frances Feliz Passes on Monday Frances Feliz, 9-month old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ricardo Feliz of 400 South Vine street, passed away at the home at the Orange county hospital on Monday, February 14. Funeral services were held at the Backs, Campbell and Kaulbars mortuary, Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock. Interment was in Holy Sepulchre cemetery. Plan Ladies' Night Program The Yorba Linda Farm Center will have a ladies' night program next Monday evening in the Masonic Hall, that city, at 6:30 o'clock, Mrs. Evelyn Casper, chairman, announced. Richard A. Buckby of the Westinghouse Electric Corporation, will discuss "Seeing." Bob Smith of the Edison Company will show a colored motion picture. A demonstration on the "Uses of Avocados" will be given by Mrs. Marian Prentiss, home demonstration agent, and Miss Robin Burr, assistant demonstrator. Members were requested to bring a pot luck dish and their own table service. The center will furnish the rolls, butter, coffee, cream and sugar. SUGAR AND SPICE A baby daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Sims, Route 2, Chowchilla, Monday, at Anaheim Community hospital. BABY GIRL BOXN A baby daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Jesus Hurtado, Route 3, Anaheim, last Thursday at Fullerton General hospital. Plan Lapidary Annual Dinner Annual dinner meeting of the Orange Coast Mineral and Lapidary Society will be next Monday evening at 6:30 o'clock in the Corona del Mar grammar school. Dinner tickets are obtainable by advance reservation only R. T. Hubbell of Newport Beach stated. The meeting will be open to the public about 8 o'clock. Guest speaker will be Leland Quick, editor and publisher of the Lapidary Journal, one of the fastest growing publications for the amateur lapidary on the market today, according to Hubbell. Quick has been a contributor to the Desert Magazine for the past five years and also was the first president of the Los Angeles Lapidary Society, one of the pioneer groups in the country.
