Wed at St. Michael's Church
Radiant in ivory bridal satin, Miss Margaret Garrett, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Garrett, 218 North Olive street, Anaheim, became the bride of John B. Nugent, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Nugent of Shafter, California, Friday evening at 8 o'clock in the sanctuary of St. Michael's Episcopal church, this city, with the Rev. John Kimball Saville, pastor, reading the nuptials for the semi-formal single-ring ceremony.
The young couple plighted their troth before an altar arranged with lavender stock and early spring blossoms, flanked by potted palms and lighted cathedral candelabra.
The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a princess-style gown fashioned with a sweetheart neckline, long sleeves pointed at the wrist, and a full skirt ending in an eight-foot train. Her veil was finger-tip length.
She carried a white orchid resting on a prayer book.
Miss Lai Bertrand of San Francisco, formerly of Anaheim, was the maid of honor attired in a silver-toned gown of aqua satin designed with a square neckline and worn with matching mitts and veil. She carried an orchid resting on a prayer book.
Bridesmaids were Misses Wan-mother, wore a silver-gray dress accented with rose accessories and an orchid corsage.
For traveling the bride wore a navy dress, matching shoes and purse and grey hat and gloves with a maroon top coat. The couple will reside in northern California near King City.
A native of Anaheim, the new Mrs. Nugent attended local schools and Fullerton Junior college. She formerly was associated with the Victor G. Loly Jewelry store and was a member of the Anaheim Credit Women's club. Her bridegroom is employed by the Superior Oil Company. He attended schools in Texas, Indiana and California, and served in the Navy during the recent war.
Several pre-nuptial courtesies honored the popular bride. A party was given in the Garrett home from Anaheim, and Miss Betty Johnson of Long Beach. Aqua streamers accented their colonial bouquets of American Beauty roses.
Serving as best man was Everett McCain of Los Angeles. Four-year-old Sherry Gregg of Anaheim, attired in a frock of sunshine yellow, was the flower girl.
Nuptial solos were "Ave Maria" and "On This Day, O Beautiful Mother." Traditional wedding music was played by the church's organist.
The reception was held in the church hall immediately following the ceremony with Mrs. Jack Winger, sister-in-law of the bride-groom, Miss Mary Wagner of Santa Ana and Mrs. Betty Bristow of Santa Ana, assisting with the hostess duties.
The huge cut-glass lighted punch bowl was surrounded by gardenias. The couple cut and shared the first piece of the four-tiered wedding cake topped with a miniature bridal couple.
Seventy-five immediate family relatives of the couple attended a festive wedding supper at the home of the bride's parents in San Pedro. For the occasion Mrs. Schladen, the bride's mother, chose a two-toned gray dress worn with gray accessories and a corsage of pink roses. The bridegroom's mother, Mrs. Winger, wore a navy dress and hat and a pink rose corsage.
White stock and early spring blossoms were arranged throughout the home. A miniature bridal party accented the mantle. Buffet supper was served.
The newlyweds left for a two-week honeymoon trip, destination undisclosed. Upon their return they will reside at 2035 North Broadway, Santa Ana. For travel

Petite little flower girl was Miss Susan Saville, daughter of the pastor. She was clad in a frock of yellow brocaded satin fashioned with a high neckline of net and ruffle accent and a matching ruffle at the bottom of the skirt. Like the other attendants to the bride, she carried an orchid resting on a prayer book. Jack Conklin was candlighter.
Serving as best man was George E. Nugent, brother of the bridegroom form Long Beach. Ushers included James M. Nugent of Shafter, another brother of the bridegroom, and Don S. Garrett of Anaheim, the bride's brother.
Mrs. Doris Thomas, pre-nuptial soloist, sang "Because," "O Perfect Love" and "The Lord's Prayer," accompanied by Miss Hazel Erickson of Santa Ana, organist, who played the traditional wedding marches for processional and recessional.
Immediately following the ceremony, a reception for 175 guests was held in the parish hall with Mrs. Glen Butcher, aunt of the bride, in charge of the reception table. Serving the cake were Mrs. James Patrick and Mrs. Ted Teasdale, close friends of the bride. Miss Pat Loly and Miss Genevieve Kirk, of this city, friends of the bride, were in charge of the guest book. Presiding at the punch bowl were Mrs. N. Roberts, the bridegroom's aunt, Mrs. George Nugent, sister-in-law of the bridegroom and Mrs. Don Fletcher, his sister. Serving as hostesses in the hall, greeting the large number of friends and relatives present, were Misses Wilma Fledderman, Marlan Merrill and Doris Fewks.
The miniature bridal couple topping the four-tiered wedding cake was a gift of the bridegroom's grandmother, who used it at her fiftieth wedding anniversary.

Gowned in white duchess satin, Miss Louise Schladen, registered surgical nurse at St. Joseph's hospital, Orange, and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Schladen of San Pedro, became the bride of Edward E. Winger, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Winger, 330 South Claudina street, Anaheim, Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Catholic church in Belmont Shores, with the Rev. Father Peter E. Hoye of St. Joseph's hospital officiating.
More than 200 friends and relatives witnessed the nuptials. The couple repeated their marriage vows before an altar arranged with white gladioli, early spring blossoms and potted palms.
The bride's princess-style gown was fashioned with a lace yoke, long sleeves, fitted bodice and full skirt ending in a long train. Her full-length veil cascaded from a high pearl-beaded halo. Only adornment to her costume was a single strand of pearls.

Credit Women Hear Ross Laird
Purpose of the national merchants' campaign to emphasize the rights of each United States citizen, was explained by Ross Lee Laird of the California Association of Credit Bureaus when he discussed "Democracy Works Here" before members of the Credit Women Tuesday evening at the Town House, Fullerton.
The dinner-session of the Northern Orange county group was attended by guests from San Diego Long Beach and Whittier. The affair was a reciprocity meeting for the Whittier club.
A south-of-the-border atmosphere prevailed as Tina Bleecker pianist,and her niece,Sylvia Estrada,the soft shoe dancer,both of Anaheim,m presented a program Plano solos were presented in addition to accompaniment to several Spanish dances.

Fathers' Night
Plans for a Gold Star father's night party March 30, were launched during the February meeting of the county Gold Star Mothers at the Legion Hall in Santa Ana.
The group also launched plans for a rummage sale in March. They will adopt a ward at Sawtelle hospital and keep him supplied with hospital pads, magazines, cigarettes and other necessities and comforts, it was decided.
The group voted to buy a Gold Star flag for the chapter. Lyma Bliss and Mabel McIlonie were elected flag escorts.
The executive committee will meet February 28 at the Huntington Inn for luncheon it was announced. Members of the March hostess committee include Ruth Frazer, Lyma Bliss, Alice Funnell, Charlotte Forrester and Caroline Lovering, have been invited to attend.
Lincoln Themed Toastmistress Installation
In an impressive candlelight ceremony, honoring the memory of Abraham Lincoln, Eva Gooden was installed president of the Anaheim Toastmistress club last Thursday night at La Palma Grill with Gertrude McMahan of Santa Ana club acting as installing officer.
Other officers seated with Mrs. Gooden at the dinner-meeting included Margaret Freeman, vice-president; Ira Brown, secretary; Emma Pellew, treasurer, and Rose Search, hostess.
Sarah Wheatley, retiring president, greeted those present during the dinner program which preceded the ritual. Verna Kuntz of the Fortnighters club of Santa Ana gave the invocation and the flag salute was led by Emma Pellew.

Mrs. Ray Ortez, Jr., president of the Anaheim Junior Ebell club, was elected president of the Orange County Federation of Junior Women's clubs, during a meeting of county members last week at the Garden Grove Women's club house.
Named vice-president to serve with Mrs. Ortez was Mrs. Florence Tinsley of Huntington Beach. Other officers elected included Mrs. Verla Gardner of Garden Grove, recording secretary; Mrs. W. H. Installation of the newly elected officers will be May 24 at Huntington Beach, it was announced. Retiring president Mrs. Merritt Calkins of Seal Beach, outgoing president, presided during the business session.
A luncheon and fashion show will be held instead of the annual spring dinner dance at Lakewood Country club, it was decided.
Brownies to Give Holiday Party
A Valentine's Day sweetheart supper will be given by all fourth grade Brownie troops of this city from 6:30 to 8:30 o'clock in the Fremont Junior high school cafeteria next Monday evening, with all fathers of troop members and husbands of leaders and committee members as special guests.
Each troop will plan a pot-luck meal for its members. Seating arrangements will be by troop units.
A varied entertainment program is being planned with each troop to present a feature of its choice.

This dinner is taking the place of the Brownie Washington Birthday party for the fourth graders. Second and third grade Brownies will mark the annual day later in the season with an outdoor affair, Scout leaders stated.

Hour Broadcasts
Concert soloists for the remaining February broadcasts of "The Telephone Hour" will be Clifford Curzon, John Charles Thomas and Pla Tassinari, it was announced by R. J. Rossberg, manager of the Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Company in Anaheim. The weekly programs are heard Monday evenings at 9 o'clock over NBC stations.
