Host of Western Stars to Play at Policemen’s Ball on February 16 Dave Ming's Harmony Park Corral, featuring Ole Rasmussen and his Nebraska Corn Huskers will play at the Orange County Peace Officers benefit ball at the Balboa Rendezvous ballroom on Wednesday evening, February 10. Holdover members are Louis Sandoval, Wilbert Boney and Frank Kellogg. Other western stars scheduled to perform are Carolina Cotton, Monty Hale and Max Terhune. Dancing will start at 8:30 p.m., dress is informal and door prizes are to be given away. Admission is $2 per couple. Members of the dance committee include Neil Fiscus and Alton Hoxie of the Anaheim police department, Cuba Morris of the highway patrol and Herman Pause and Bill Moran of the state board of equalization. Tickets (to the dance) are available at any police department, sheriff's office, highway patrol office and will be sold at the ballroom. Roger Deas of San Francisco, director of the National Council for Christians and Jews discussed the "Brotherhood of Man" and the dynamic part the YMCA-YWCA plays in striving toward world peace, at the annual "Y" banquet held Friday night at the local Ebell club. Elections, introduction of board members, a discussion of the YMCA building here and presentation of committee reports highlighted the business session. Betty Delaney, girls' secrtary, gave a report on work accomplished in various schools in the area and Anaheim. Entertainment included selections presented by the verse choir of "Y" club members. The invocation was presented by the Rev. Rollo Dunham. The Rev. Philip Selfridge gave a devotional period. Benediction was by the Rev. Al Casebeer. Community singing was led by Bob Quast with Merle Waterman at the piano keyboard. Mrs. Cortez Hoskins and her committee won praise for the delicious dinner enjoyed by the capacity crowd. Phelps Attends Bankers Confab In Los Angeles Wilson W. Phelps of the Southern County Bank represented Anaheim at the 22nd annual dinner meeting of the Independent Bankers Association of Southern California, held in Los Angeles, Thursday, January 27. It was marked by the largest attendance in the history of the association. Officers of the Independent Bankers' Association elected for 1949 were: President, Herman F. No sooner was young Ben recovering at home than his mother, Mrs. Jane Curtis, underwent a major operation early last week at the same hospital. She was taken home Tuesday of this week. Both convalescents are reported doing well. Gazette reporters were unable to ascertain Officer Curtis' condition. C. Chapman, manager of Veterans Administration's Angeles regional office. Chapman emphasized that divisions on National Service Life insurance will not be payable for number of months and that for that purpose will be billed by the government at time. There will be no expense to veteran in applying for any insurance benefit—or any other benefit administered by the VA," Chapman stated. Veterans are urged immediately to notify the nearest VA office, the Better Business Bureau or the police should any individual attempt to sell them forms to obtain VA administered benefits. Fullerton JC Registration More than 1,300 current and old students of Fullerton Junior college will re-register for the spring semester next Monday, February 7, according to Dr. H. L. Shellar, register.
