Orange County Associated Chambers Bid for Four Year State College
The Executive Board of the Associated Chambers of Commerce of Orange county put its stamp of approval on the report, "Orange County, Ideal Site for a State College" Monday and forwarded it to responsible state officials. In so doing, Orange county, as represented by its Associated Chambers of Commerce, made a bid for the location of one of two new four year state colleges soon to be established at some point in southern California.
The report emphasizes that Orange county's population is increasing rapidly, and that it is readily accessible to the areas that have need for such an institution. Seven sites are depicted in the index as available. Desirability features of the typography, environment and cultural opportunities are stressed. Separate reports have been submitted covering the Santa Ana college site and the Irvine properties by local groups.
The report is the result of a study by the Education Committee of the Orange County Associated Chambers of Commerce. Chairman Frank R. Burrill appointed a special committee composed of Stanley Bates, Santa Ana Chamber of Commerce, Ross N. Hodson, Fullerton Union high school and Junior College Board of Trustees, and Basil H. Peterson, Orange Coast junior college, to coordinate county efforts to secure the site in Orange county. State officials were shown desirable Orange county sites in August.
"Orange County, Ideal Site for a State College" was written largely by Dr. Phillip J. Schlessinger, Fullerton Junior college
Install Spencer 20-30 'Prexy'
Ralph Spencer was installed president of the Anaheim 20-30 club during a joint installation with the Brea service club, Sunday afternoon in Brea Woman's club.
Other officers seated with Spencer included Burl (Antelope) Gist, vice-president; Richard Kelley, second vice-president; Wilton Collier, treasurer; Mel Eberhard, secretary, and Abe Sowder, sergeant-at-arms.
Local board members are Gordon Ferguson, Al Mittman, and Wilton Collier. Outgoing president is Pete Jacobs. Installing officer was Dr. Rodney Hilbert of Fullerton, president of 20-30 International.
Talented youngsters of the Richards-Martin School of Dancing, Anaheim, were featured on the entertainment program.
The installation ceremony and program followed a chicken dinner enjoyed by Anaheim and Brea club members and their wives and guests.

"Orange County, Ideal Site for a State College" was written largely by Dr. Phillip J. Schlesinger, Fullerton Junior college history instructor, with the aid of other faculty members and students. Plot plans showing the proposed site were drawn by students in Elwyn C. Saferite's drafting classes. Covers were designed by students in the salesmanship class taught by Jacob H. Martin. Ozalid reproduction was handled by Earl S. Dysinger with Robert A. J. Porter supervising printing in the college press.
The report which is an excellent example of community-college cooperation has elicited favorable response from state officials, according to T. Stanley Warburton, superintendent, Fullerton Junior college. No definite action is anticipated on location of either of the proposed new state colleges for the Los Angeles-Orange county area until legislative authorization has been completed.

reational purposes would be processed through channels to the administrator, War Assets Administration, probably within the next three weeks, and that action could be expected before Feb. 28. This date is the deadline before expiration of the law under which the War Assets Administration functions.
Joining with Kellogg in presenting the county's thinking on the matter were Ernest Moeller, local chamber secretary; Harry Welch, Newport Harbor Chamber secretary; William Gallienne, Huntington Beach Chamber secretary; C. J. Mark, county farm advisor; Walter Schmid, president of the Associated Chambers of Commerce; C. G. Kimble, Laguna Beach, president of the Orange County Coast Association; W. E. Croddy and Glenn Woolley, members of the 32nd District Board; L. A. "Dan" Patch, representing Sunset Beach.

In gallery II is the charming painting, "Leda and the Swan" by Correggio, Renaissance painter. Temperate French paintings in the room contrast with the more theoretical Italian.
Colorful Flemish, German, Dutch, Austrian and Italian paintings of the fifteenth and early sixteenth centuries are found in gallery III. Outstanding are works of Rogier van der Weyden, Hans Memling, de Hooch and Kalf.
Rich in character are portraits by Jan Mostaert, Joos Van Cleve, Hans Baldung Grun and Christopher Amberger and many other early northern painters.
Landscapes by Adam Elsheimer, precursor to seventeenth century Dutch landscape painters, are displayed. The transition from Byzantine formalism to Renaissance humanism is shown in early Italian paintings such as "Cricufixion" by Giovanni de Paolo.
The Titians appear drab in the foyer, due to many layers of discoloring varnish, and contrast to the vividness of the subtle yet sensuous works of Rembrandt.
Fans Hals' lively pictures show Dutch life as simple and gay as do works by Jan Steen. Another outstanding work is "Young Woman with a Pearl Necklace" by Jan Vermeer.
French life is shown in works by Watteau and Chardin. The eighteenth century Venitian Guardi in his complex use of distorted perspective multiple vanishing points hints of modern romantic surrealistic art.
