Annual Kiwanis Christmas Party Huge Success Anaheim Kiwanis club held annual ladies night Christmas party last Tuesday evening at Ebell clubhouse. President Frantz Kellogg introduced his retiring board of directors, recalled some of the highlights of the year he thanked the membership for cooperation. He then introduced the new president, Clyde Nichols who presented his new board told some of the things he in mind for the club for 1 Roscoe Young contributed on the highlights of the evening he presented a Twenty-five Year certificate of merit to Bob Fowler and then introduced the other men in the who had also received this from Kiwanis International. The include: Frank Gibbs, Fritz Yelbuth, Charlie Mann, Joe Coll Harry Horn and Roscoe Young. Irwin Chapman of Fuller this year’s Lt. Governor of Dion Four, introduced Carter of the Santa Ana club who over that position for 1949. Uschert Rites Hold Wednesday College Head To Speak Here Robert Gordon Sproul, president of the University of California, will visit Anaheim, February 4, on his annual tour of California alumni groups throughout the state. Accompanied by Mrs. Sproul and representatives of the university faculty and the California Alumni association, the president will address a luncheon meeting at the local Elks club. Arrangements for the event are in charge of a committee headed by Ed. J. Power, Route 4, 12962 Ball road. With more than 130,000 graduates of the eight campuses in the state, President Sproul each year devotes a week to his unique tour. Last year he spoke before thirteen meetings in seven days during a 1000-mile swing of northern California. This year he will appear in ten communities; Hayward, Modesto, Madera, Visalia, Bakersfield, Ventura, Long Beach, Anaheim, Riverside and Los Angeles. Now concluding his eighteenth year as university head, Sproul is serving currently as chairman of the American Heritage Foundation. Also active in national affairs, he is a member of the Veterans Administration board and the officers training committee for the Army and Navy and a director of the Carnegie and Rockefeller foundations. Sproul spent four months in Russia as advisor to the Allied Commission on Human Reparations shortly after World War II. Placentia Church Plans Program A Christmas Eve candlelight service will be held at the Placentia Presbyterian church, Center and Main streets, Placentia, Fri. Santa Attends Optimist Club Yule-Dinner Santa Claus in person was special guest at the Anaheim Optimist and Junior Optimist club dinner and Christmas party. Thursday night at Mother’s Kitchen. Old St. Nick proved to be E. E. (Wally) Walburg, versatile master of ceremonies. Fifty-seven boys and adults attended the affair. A mechanical toy and a bag of gay Christmas candy was presented to each youngster. The junior members enjoyed malted milk and chocolate eclairs for dessert. To the amazement of the seniors and evident pleasure of the juniors, a bubble blowing contest took an important puff on the entertainment program. Winning honors went to Ronald Kay who produced a bubble 7.609 inches in diameter. Al Rigby and Leo Tauer were announcer and official gauger respectively. Runners up included Donald Selfridge with a bubble measuring 7.406 inches and Tony Zava and Frank Garcia with respective bubbles of 6.512 and 5.262 inches in diameter. A prize of a wrist watch was presented John Velafano by president J. W. Stephens for his work in repairing and repainting toys, a project just completed by the Junior Optimist club. Needy children will receive the toys as Christmas gifts. Christmas carols were sung by the entire group with Mrs. Walt Gooden providing piano accompaniment. Senior club guests of the senior club included Ernest Hall, John A. Albright and Chet del George who is a former resident of Anaheim and currently a member of the Hollywood Optimist club. Joe Quast at 21 North Clementine street, on Sunday, Dec. 12. Born in Germany in Aug. 7, 1870, she came to the United States 76 years ago and had resided in Anaheim for the last seven years. She was member of Bethel Baptist church. Left to mourn her passing are her daughter, Mrs. Quast; two sons, Herman Kageler of Balboa Island and Marvin Kageler of Anaheim; four grandchildren; nine great grandchildren, and a brother, Gus Dade of Benshley, Texas. Funeral services were held this afternoon (Thursday) at Backs, Campbell and Kaulbars chapel with the Rev. P. G. Neumann of Bethel Baptist church, this city, and the Rev. E. Mittlested of Los Angeles, officiating. Interment will be in Fairhaven cemetery.
