Margaret Fluor Participates in 'Cotton' Contest
Miss Margaret Ann Fluor, daughter of Mrs. P. E. Fluor, 700 North Clementine street, Anaheim, 22, member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority at the University of California was one of three finalists in the state division of the national Maid of Cotton contest, held last Saturday at Bakersfield Inn, Bakersfield.
The attractive Anaheim co-ed, sponsored by USC, was chosen as a finalist from more than 22 come-ly California-born college students.
National finals of the contest will be held in Memphis, Tennessee, on January 3. The lucky winner will enjoy a world tour, a month's stay in New York City and a 1949 convertible plus a complete cotton wardrobe and a set of luggage.
Comely state contestants were honorees of a special luncheon and later an evening banquet while guests at Bakersfield Inn.
Miss Marlin with Oxnard Office
Miss Margaret Marlin, 149 North Lemon street, who returned Saturday from two weeks advanced Western Union reperfession schooling in Oakland has been transformed from the Anaheim newspaper into a digital version available online.
While in Oakland Miss Marlin resided at the Coit Ramsey hotel with 25 other operators from Nevada, Arizona and California. Before returning here she toured the University of California campus at Berkeley and enjoyed San Francisco sights, including Fisherman's Wharf.
Complete installation of perforation or automatic switching equipment will be installed in the local office within the near future; previous to which Miss Donnie Sherman and Manager Earl Hudson will attend reperfession school. Automatic switching makes possible the direct wiring of a message into another state for sending to the addressee in that state.
'Y' Clubs Party 'Big Success'
Well attended was the Yule program sponsored by the Hi-Y and Y-Teen clubs of Anaheim last night (Wednesday) at the White Temple Methodist church with Tommy Thomason, YMCA-YWCA director, in charge of overall arrangements.
The first part of the program, of a devotional and inspirational nature, was held in the church sanctuary.
Slides were shown and Christmas carols sung later in the evening in the church's basement.

Christmas carols were sung the entire group. Shirley Park of Troop 1, was piano accompanist for the group singing and the Girl Scout chorus during city-wide Scouts own, held cently.
Assisting Misses Mungerson Dunn as members of the plant and hostess committees were my Rail of Troop 1, and my Dierberger of Troop 16, Free school. Nancy Morales, Troop Zion Lutheran school, assist the registering of guests.
Special recognition went to Troop 8 of St. Boniface for having one hundred pet father and daughter attend Troop leader is Mrs. Peter Schmitz. Miss Margaret Marlin, 149 North Lemon street, who returned Saturday from two weeks advanced Western Union reperfereation schooling in Oakland has been transferred from the Anaheim office, 109 East Center street, to Oxnard.
She began her Oxnard duties Wednesday after spending nearly three years here following completion of schooling at Santa Cruz.

Of Girl Scouts
Big annual event of the calendars of seventh and eighth grade Girl Scouts was the Fathers' Night held last week in the Fremont Junior high school cafeteria.
Glenda Wry Mungerson, first-class Scout of Troop 1, Fremont, served as mistress of ceremonies for the occasion. She introduced Mary Sue Dunn of Troop 30, Fremont, who in turn officially welcomed all fathers and special guests. August Fitz, who boasts two Girl Scouts in his family, responded to the welcome and related amusing incidents which occurred when he attended the regional Girl Scout conference at program sponsored by the Hi-Y and Y-Teen clubs of Anaheim last night (Wednesday) at the White Temple Methodist church with Tommy Thomason, YMCA-YWCA director, in charge of overall arrangements.

At Red Cross Council Meet
Outlining a safety program for a simulated disaster problem highlighted the program of the Orange County Council of Red Cross, held last week at the Santa Ana chapter offices in the Community Center building. Chairman John Allen Bradley of that city presided.
Representatives attending the session which stressed safety from Anaheim, included Mrs. Leo J.Friis, local chapter chairman; Mrs.P.M.Wheeler, executive-secretary,and L.M.Pickel,safety chairman.

Valedors Hail Christmas Party
With a child's toy and a can of food admission per person for a gala Christmas dancing party, Valedor club members of St. Marys Catholic church, Fullerton, and St. Boniface Catholic church, Anaheim, gathered at the Placentia home of Claire McDonald Saturday night.
Wayne Andrade and Miss McDonald were in charge of arrangements for the affair. Toys, which took the entertainment spotlight early in the evening, and the canned goods were collected for the Catholic Welfare.
Against a background of gay Christmas decorations, Valedors enjoyed a midnight buffet. Joe Truxaw is president of the young people's group.
Dempsey-Shultz Nuptials Read In Chapel Rites
In the quiet sanctuary of Capilla de San Antonio chapel, Miss Mildred Dempsey of West Anaheim, daughter of Mrs. Mildred Dempsey of 919 North Ninth street, Springfield, Illinois, became the bride of Robert L. Shultz, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Shultz, 9375 South Hansen road, Anaheim, Saturday afternoon at 4:30 o'clock with the Rev. Harry E. Owings, retired Baptist minister of Santa Ana, officiating for the doubling semi-formal ceremony.
The young couple repeated their marriage vows before an altar arranged with large white chrysanthemums and button chrysanthemums flanked by cathedral candelabra.
Enhancing the bride's loveliness was her gown of ice blue satin fashioned with cap sleeves and bustle back worn with a juliet cap and lace gloves of ice blue. Her only adornment was a Center building. Chairman John Allen Bradley of that city presided.
